There is no simple answer to your question. Approximate times are posted on the following website....
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp
It depends on if its In-Canada or outside and a bunch of other factors, unless I have more information from your side I cannot comment further.
What skill are you going to use, if you don´t mind me asking.

Well,
i am H1b visa holdingworking in puerto rico, and i want to start the process to immigrate to canada while i heve my visa valid,(2 year and half) that´s because it´s dificult and take much time get Green Card.

Ok, since you are in Puerto Rico, I think you can apply to Buffalo. Did you take the points estimator to find out if you qualify ? Here are some tips to expedite the process....
1. Send all possible documentation with the application.
2. If you qualify for the 67 points without having to claim 16 points for language, then its better to claim 12 as in some cases you may not have to give the IELTS.
3. If the CIC asks for additional forms and/or information, send everything that they have asked for ASAP, including applicable fees (like landing fees etc).
Having said that on an average you should expect around 18-24 months of processing time. Also, if USA is your first choice then I would suggest you apply for the Green Card also as soon as possible. Good luck.

I am trying to fill out my application for citizenship I have been in the country since May of 1959. I came with my parents from Glasgow Scotland. My passport was stanped with record of landing just a few year ago. I have been in Canada for 51 years. I know I do not have to take the exam but some of the application asks about am I a citien of a other country I have a British passport. Would it be faster to get a resident card or a passport? I am leaving on vacation February 18, 2010.
