New Category of Canada Immigration - Canadian Experience Class

In 2008, a new stream of Canadian immigration will be available to certain temporary foreign workers and international students with Canadian degrees and Canadian work experience. First announced in the 2007 budget, the Canadian Experience Class will help address the country´s labour force needs by better focusing on these candidates for Canadian Permanent Residency. Citizenship and Immigration Canada´s goal for 2008 is to admit between 10,000 and 12,000 under the new Canadian Experience category of immigration.

Canada´s current international student talent pool has the potential to add up to 30,000 skilled immigrants every year. The thousands of Temporary Foreign Workers currently in Canada are also first-rate immigration candidates, having already settled into Canadian society and the Canadian labour force. Under this new category of immigration, individuals in these two groups can apply for Permanent Residency from within Canada. Details are expected early in the new year.

In 2008, the Canadian Experience Class will add to other initiatives aimed at easing Canada´s labour force shortages. The Provincial Nominee Programs, in which Canadian immigration applicants are nominated for priority processing by the province in which they plan to live, have been expanded for next year. Additionally, Foreign Credential Referral Office (FCRO) services have been increased and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program has been enhanced.

We (my clients and staff) have been waiting for this program for far too long. I have been wishing for this for far too long. Speedoflight supposedly it has been designed for a few basic reasons but do not put all your hopes in one basket.

Apparently the program is designed for;
To keep the Canadian educated foreign students knowledge in Canada.
To prevent situations of foreign students who complete their own applications being called for interviews in the States and not being granted US visitor visas to attend their FSW interviews.
To keep trades people and their families in Canada since they already have Canadian employment experience and are desperately needed.

Last night I met a bricklayer and his family who has been working and living in Canada for five years on a TWP. Each and every year his representative has been charging him to renew his work permit, his kids student permits etc. Language ability is an issue but could of easily been overcome with a PNP application.

I also have a roofer who is detained because he was coming to Canada with construction boots to apply for a position. The CBSA officer did not accept that even though he owns a condo, has a wife back home, credit cards and debit cards that he was a genuine visitor because he arrived with a return ticket but only $100.00 in cash!

The first gentleman interpreted his situation as futile to apply for permanent residency and the second gentleman was interpreted by CBSA to be a bogus visitor because of everyone knows that plenty of construction companies higher illegal workers.

Something has to change but what exactly Speedoflight?????

Speedoflight did you read that Foreign Credential Recognition is supposedly improving according to the same CIC newsletter. FUNNY!

Ontario will not even assess trades people credentials unless they have a Social Insurance Number. How can someone who has been working illegally in Canada for two years as a electrician with an additional four years of experience back home expect to come out of the underground economy?

One the one hand the politicians claim we need to attract applicants with occupations that are in excessive high demand. Then they put up road blocks after road blocks!

Saskatchewan PNP program is trying to attract Long Haul Truck Drivers and that province has a reciprocal agreement with only six countries to exchange driver licenses. The only country that would likely have drivers that might be interested is South Korea. The applicant has to be fluent in English and take an IELTS find an employer who wishes to sponsor him etc. etc.

I´m not suggesting that the doors should be thrown wide open but come on politicians COMMON SENSE!

I think it will be good if foreign students can be retained in the country, this program looks like a good step forward to achieve that. For the past couple of decades the US has been doing the same (successfully though) and I think a lot of foreign students educated in Canada have been moving south for better employment opportunities.

Roy,
It was funny you mentioned about Ontario trade assessment !! They need to make some changes, I mean it can charge $$ for the assessment, but do it before immigrants can land, that way no one loses. Also I agree if they make candidates take the IELTS that way they can cover their bases, but just for good humor.... I have seen some Chinese exchange students at a local university where I live who speak better english than the average Americans here.... LOL.

YJ

It is not a news article it is a posting on a authorized representative web site who is seeking to get clients. YJ this was responses from my original thread which I posted regarding being asked by CIC for my input.

Basically CIC asked for input after they had basically created it by themselves over years of input and now they are reassessing their opinions.

CIC claims it will be released in fall of 2008. Nothing much else!
