A lady getting her Ph.D in Geophysics from the US is looking for job in Alberta (can be anywhere in Canada though).

Her interest are:

1. Geophysics
2. Petroleum Geologist
3. Mining
4. Geology
5. HydroGeology
6. Earth science
7. Geo science
8. Geologist
9. Necular Waste Management

Bill I know you are most liklely closer to her field. Can you or any other tell any other effective ways than the conventional workopolis or monster search?

Any particular local hot site?

Thanks

Hey

It is my field too!
I had an interview with U of Alberta for a position in Geophysics. U of A is very good in Earth Sciences and they combine their department with physics.

I heard that the U of Calgary has a pretty good Earth Sciences department too and she should try to contact them also.

It also depends on her speciality. Her interests cover a full range of stuff, usually they are looking for someone in a specific area.

Why she wants to go to Canada ? I am curious

CBV,

Good to know that, I suspsected that you may be in the same boat, wasn´t sure though whether you are in pure physics or in applied.

This girl currently doesn´t want faculty position, more interested towards industry jobs. As it is believed that Alberta is now crying for such professionals. She started a month ago and so far not being closer to anything and hence considering something unorthodox.

The list I gave basically the search word she uses for usual job searching. I believe Geophysics is her major.

Why in Canada? Family issue. Her husband sponsored his parents and now can´t take any chance of leaving Canada, meaning she has to come into Canada.

I´m afraid that I wouldn´t get any response other than you:).

I do not know whether this will be helpful.

If she is not in Alberta then atleast she should try to get Alberta phone number and she may get an interview call. I have seen this happening to some people they were in some other cities but got their number changed to Toronto´s and got interview calls.

If she has experience she can even contact some head hunters though results from this will depend on her having PR status or not.

Also, she can contact professors in her area to get into some university position. She knows this already, I guess.

Samm,

She is a landed PR.

You are suggesting to appoach the companies directly by calling? Most of the companies don´t like that.

Yes, it is the best startegy to use the local phone no. & address always. I always tell that everybody. Employers always first look for the locals.

I would not call - all you will get is the receptionist and the run around.

This field of expertise is not something I know anything about so I am sorry I will not be much assistance.

I also wouldn´t like to recieve employment inquiry call if I don´t advertise.

Hi DC,

Tell her to check with Syncrude, Suncor, Albian Sands, IROC, Opti Nexen, North American Construction Group and CNRL.

Most of this companies are always looking for people in her field.

Tell her to check these employment agencies. They are located here in Fort McMurray Alberta and they have helped our organization in the past.

They are pretty good.

Cheers

Bill

I did not mean that she should call the employers. I meant forwarding her resume to job consultant.
