hello roy and sharon, babu here from philippines.
i just want to ask from u guys a few questions.
i got married 2 months ago and i am now about to apply for permanent resident visa under spousal sponsorhip. my husband said that he will stay with me by middle of next year while waiting for my visa. I just wanna ask if its ok for him to apply for a social assistance (it is where the deduction of my husband´s salary goes to where they can ask for assistance if they are jobless). Ive read in this forum that an applicant will be denied if the sponsorhip is on goverment assistance. PLS help me roy and sharon.

thanks and God Bless!

1) are both of you currently in the Philippines?
2) did you know that if the Canadian is not a citizen, an application cannot be started outside of Canada?

Please explain this-´I just wanna ask if its ok for him to apply for a social assistance (it is where the deduction of my husband?s salary goes to where they can ask for assistance if they are jobless).´ it is not making sense.

Are you thinking your husband will return to Canada and apply for welfare? Employment insurance is only available if he has been laid off - if he is coming back to Canada after being out of the country for several months he does not qualify for this insurance.

Spousal sponsorship does not have an income qualification.

He has 2 part time jobs in canada right now and he plans to appply for employment insurance next year while living with me in the philippines and while waiting for my visa and we will leave the philippines together as soon as i have my visa. thanks again sharon.

for him to be eligible for employment insurance he must be living in Canada and available for work. If he is intending to do anything different it is called fraud. He needs to rethink his strategy.

Is he a Citizen or a PR. the rules of sponsorship are different for each.

I had a girlfriend who thought she could go to Ireland and still get her EI. Well, guess what... EI took about 60 days to figure it out. She had to pay the money all back, and can never claim EI again.

needless to say, she would not recommend trying it.
