Subject: not enough points - still a chance if you have $ ?
Hello everybody. I´m a skilled computer programmer with 8+ years of work experience. I´m fluent in English as a second language too. Me and my wife were considering applying for a skilled workers visa. Unfortunately I only got 57 points in the assessment because I only did 2 years of college and don´t have a barchelor degree. However I do have a some technical education in electronics.
I saw in a FAQ from a lawyer´s firm that if you have less than the points required you can still apply if you do have enough money to sustain yourself. Is it so, or is it just something they say to get money from you? Would you recommend hiring a lawyer for my case?

Thanks in advance

Agus

I don?t believe that. I think it is more a case of the lawyer trying to get his hands on your money. If anything, I would suggest applying on your own and not through a lawyer.

I assume you have gone through the points test (on the cic site). If so (or if not, I suggest you do that), you know where you are missing the points. Do you think you can get those points in the next 2 to 3 years? To apply, all you have to do is sent in the application (and not the supporting documents). This way you get in line. The line is long. The wait is 2-4 years (depending on which visa office you are applying at). If you think in that time you can get more points then, I suggest you go ahead and apply (on your own, not a lawyer). Maybe, in you can enroll in college and get a bachelor?s in 2 years. Perhaps learn French. Alternately, look for a job in Canada, which will give you additional 10 points.

I know some of these suggestions are easier said than done and they are just some of the ways to get more points.

Ray,

People say that one must have 67 points at time of application submission. I have three and half year experience thus have less points, people here on forum suggested me to wait for 6 months so that i could get experience´s full points. People said, after filing application experience can not be changed. What you think????

Best Regards
