Subject: Marrying Canadian girlfriend
  Hi all,
I´ve been in a relationship with a Canadian women for 2 yrs and have visited her on PEI twice but unfortunately she has been unable to visit Scotland as yet.Our friendship grew from within an internet forum and subsequently we have been on the web-cam daily and feel such a part of each others lives that we plan to marry sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2008 (yeh I know what you´re all thinking!)Anyway, soldiering on, we want to marry here in Scotland and then I would like to move to PEI and therefore I need some guidance with regards to the proceedure of immigrating to Canada as a spouse.
We are both divorced and in our 40´s and in full-time employment in our respective countries but would like to set up a small hot food outlet of our own, although my girlfriend will stay in her present job.
We have read so many confusing/conflicting accounts on various other forums and so we are now in a state of concern that I may not be allowed to move to Canada until the lengthy process has been finalised......HELP!....all info gratefully appreciated...Thankyou:Joe

What lenghty process?

Turn off the camera´s and chat more and print out the chat every so often. Or chat with camera on. Send her snail mail and make sure she keeps the envelopes. Do not use phone cards unless they show up on your phone bill.

Complete all the forms NOW when your not stressed out with final preparations. Just do not include the date of marriage incase it as to be changed and does not comply with the marriage certificate. Once your married be sure to include the correct date.

Make sure you both write a one page 12 font letter why your relationship is genuine and why you both think it will continue. Do not show this letter to one another until after they are complete. Men being from Mars and women from Venus there are going to be things different and things you will enjoy learning.

Get your proof of no convictions and do your medical just before the bride arrives for the wedding. Collect all kinds of relationship type photos of the two of you laughing, relaxing having fun together which clearly show a bond between the two of you.

If you have met any of her friends get the Islanders to write a letter how she never shuts up about how perfect you are. BE SURE to include their status documents and a government ID showing their address that should be mentioned in the letter.

Before the Honey Moon copy your marriage license and send the forms to Mississauga CPC via courier. If you have completed the task correctly with lots of supporting documents inluding her documents you should have a file in London shortly after the Honey Moon is finished. 30 days

Then with a perfect application maybe an additional two months.

Thanks Roy (in reply to: Marrying Canadian girlfriend)
Well Roy....I have to say a big thanks to you for your speedy and encouraging reply.....I can´t begin to express the relief I felt at reading what you had to say.....I´m not sure what forms you refer to or the medical bit or even the convictions thing but be assured you have made an old man very happy!!!.....as for the stuff about snail mail etc.....she keeps everything....something I´m surely going to have to address!!But, yes we frequently send snail mail and various presents etc and have several digital pics of our times together....as for the friend confirmation aspect....that won´t be a problem as I feel that her family and friends will only be too glad to support both of us in this positive move in our lives.
Any chance of telling me where exactly I obtain the forms etc to start the ball rolling as you advised...thankyou so very much Roy:Joe

Basic needs scale (in reply to: Marrying Canadian girlfriend)
While reading all the stuff on the cic.ga.ca site I looked at the table regarding basic salaries required for sponsors and those being sponsored.Am I right in thinking that these apply Canada-wide as it seems to be referring to Quebec? (or have I read that whole thing wrongly)... Also, what if my future wife,as the sponsor, has less annual income than the amount applicable (based on this table) to one adult with two dependants.....does this mean she would need to have a co-signer to assist with financial part of application?
Further, I´m not clear on my financial needs regarding this table either....is the amount quoted for the sposored person referring to their annual salary as it stands now or is it an amount that they have to have as savings etc?
(sorry for being a bit dense on this stuff)
Thanks for all info provided:Joe

WOW you found the Low Income Cut Off table LICO. Your partner is not sponsoring a parent so they do not apply but then again you did say you were "an old man".

I'm not sure we can advertise in this forum (in reply to: Marrying Canadian girlfriend)
Hi Everyone,

my message is for Roy, I notice in almost all your replies you are refering to the followig www.cvimmigration.com.
When I visited your Web site, I also notice you are offring immigration´s services or advices againt "PAYPAL PAYMENT", this is considered as an advirtisement. Please read the "Rules on how to Use Canada Immigration Forum"
at the folowing link http://www.canada-city.ca/canada-immigration/index.php?mode=rules.
I beleive the only one who can charge fees for immigration application are the CIC Officers. It is always good to refer to the Government Web sites CIC,...

If I´m wrong or I misunderstood your replies, please, correct me.

Regards,

I would suggest your ?dvertising´ concern is a little over stated and your understanding of who can charge fees is not correct.

I would submit the spirit of the rule is to deter professional consultants from turning every thread into a sales pitch. While Roy will show his website, I have never seen him offer his services. In fact, Roy has mentioned on several occassions he rarely gains clients from his efforts here.

We have one poster that posts ads in threads on a regular basis and the moderator is quick to delete them.

If Roy was breaching the rules, his posts would also be gone.

my question might be... what qualifies you to call yourself ´Advisor´

Anyone on this forum can use any name they wish and "ADVISOR" uses Advisor, hmmmm Why?

Does not signing ones responses "ADVISOR" would lead some unsuspecting person to think that "ADVISOR" is knowledgeable? Was that the reason why 169.54.71 picked that name, "Advisor"?

This seems like one of my colleagues who thinks he/she are well informed about problems associated with Immigration rules in Canada. Yet "ADVISORS" advice regarding divorce rules in Canada are clearly incorrect. I advise "ADVISOR" to read the Divorce act themselves before becoming an advisor.

For all concerned when one gives advice they can hide behind the term "ADVISOR" or they can show who they are by posting their website address www.cvimmigration.com unlike ADVISOR. Rarely have I been proven incorrect on any advice I have posted.

I suggest "ADVISOR" stop trying to attack anyone that clearly shows his/her advice is incorrect. Trying to build oneselfs iamge up by tearing down others is like building a skyscraper without a proper foundation.

One has to live seperate and apart for one year prior to submitting a divorce in any province and the Divorce Law is a Federal Law not provincial.

Any generic IMM008 application for permanent residency listsw marital status as Married, Common Law, LEGALLY SEPERATED etc. Since Deepti is (MARRIED) and there is now Legal term in Canada as (LEGALLY SEPERATED)and we are not sure of DEEPTI country of origin is is highly unlikely that she is misrepresenting the facts of her application.

Goodmorning Deepti.
