Hello, my family and I applied to immigrate to Canada almost 3 years ago and we have just been ordered to undergo the medical examinations... I am excited because I think we are getting closer to getting an answer but I am worried about this... my son (7yrs old) was born with pulmonary stenosis (when the pulmonary valve is to narrow and obstructs the normal flow of blood thru the heart)... he had a cardiac catheterization to correct this problem when he was 5 months old... he was never sick... we couldn´t tell something was wrong but... the doctor´s heard a murmur and that´s how we found out... he never had to take medications prior or after the surgery... he is a healthy boy... we only go for check ups now every 3 years... so... even though it sounds complecated... we don´t really think we have a problem at all and you will never tell my son ever had a health problem in his life by looking at him... but now that we have to have this medical examination done... I don´t know how will my son´s previous condition affect us ... do you think this will be a major issue for us to be accepted as immigrants... will this disqualify us do you think? if not... if everything goes well with the medical examinations... how far do you think we are to getting a definite answer about us immigrating to Canada... what can we expect? thank you so very much for your help... CHC look for two things with regard to meds , threat to public health and excessive cost.

if your son is only having checkups every year or so and is not on any long term medication, then he doesn´t represent a problem on either front.

Make sure you get details from his specialist to take to the meds with you , to answer any questions and give long term prognosis.

at worst they will ask for a cardiologists report , small delay perhaps but no biggie in the grand scheme of things.

congrats on getting this far.
