Subject: Syrian with Military Problems!
Hello, I wanted to know if there are any Syrian men here trying to emigrate to Canada and have had problems obtaining their required Police Reports from Syria... my husband is a Syrian citizen and we applied to emigrate under the skilled workers programs, I am the principal applicant here is our time line:

Applied: Jun 19, 2005
AOR: Aug 08, 2005
90 Days letter recieved (updated documents request): Mar 08, 2007
Medical Request letter recieved: Nov 26, 2007
Request for Syrian Police Report: Nov 26, 2007 (with Medical request)
Medical Exam scheduled for : Dec 31, 2007

As you can see, we were asked to get the medical test done, but we are also asked to send the Syrian police report for my husband...

In Syria, serving the military is mandatory for all men... with few exeptions... to make the story short... not having served the military is considered a criminal offense and the Syrian government does not give police reports to those people who like my husband has not yet served the military... I explained this to the CIC office in London thru a letter when we first applied... but they are asking us for a police report now... there is a solution to our problem... my husband is soon turning 42 years old. A new Syrian law allows men 42 yrs old or older to apply for an exemption (pardon) after paying a hefty fine ($5000) and proving age... we are planning to do so... but we were given 90 days to send all the required documents... the dead-line is Feb 26, 2007... my husband turns 42 the very next day... we are not able to do anything until he turns 42... We do not want to miss the dead line, I am planning to send the rest of the required documents along with a letter to the CIC explaining the police report situation... and asking them to please give us a month after my husband´s next birthday to process the police report...
Please give me your advise... how will this affect our process ... if you have been in this situation before or have had a similar experience please reply... I am so worried... we really want to go to Canada for the sake of our children... thanks a lot!

I sugges you 1) send a copy of the original letter you sent. 2) send an additional letter explaining the steps you plan to take and providing a time-frame. 3) go in person to the immigration office and try to speak with someone. 4) wait until he is 42 and send a police report then.

Almost Canadian
Thank you (in reply to: Syrian with Military Problems!)
Almost Canadian (I like that!)
thank you for your advice... yes, I will send a new letter and a copy of the old one with the rest of the documents they asked for at this time...
My application is being processed by CIC London and I am not able to go there in person... do you think I should go the local Canadian Embassy and ask what to do?... like I said... we will go ahead and solve my husband situation anyways... we need to do it no matter what... his mother lives there and she is not able to travel anymore... my husban will need to solve the military issue no matter what so we are paying the money as soon as he turns 42... it´s just too bad that our dead line does not allow for us to do this within the time allowed... thanks a lot for your reply...
good luck and I hope you SOON become a Canadian!
Stay in touch

Lilly slow down and control your stress level. I suggest you go for a long walk in nature and put your hopes in your faith what ever that may be.

Believe that all will be okay, stay in faith.

Thanks... (in reply to: Syrian with Military Problems!)
Roy, thanks a lot for your reply... yes, I agree. I am all stressed out! Your advise actually makes a lot of sense... what ever happens will happen for a reason... My family and I have gone thru a lot in the last 5 years but we always seem to land on our feet... we are not in bad shape right now... and I should be greatful for that... and I am... I will be a bit disappointed if Canada does not come thru, but I will not be crushed... worst things have happened to me recently and I am still strong and hopeful...
Thank you for your advise again... I will take my lovely three kids to the park tomorrow morning and take that walk with them and I will take a lot of lovely pictures to capture how happy we are right now... and then in the afternoon we will go and get our medical tests done and hope for the best!
Sincerely thankful
