You either need an AEO (Arranged Employment Opinion) or an LMO (Labour Market Opinion). If you´re currently working in Canada, you go the LMO route, in which case, you get a work permit based on the LMO. Basically this allows you to work while waiting for your PR.

The AEO is only necessary if you are outside the country and do not intend to work while your PH is being processed.

Either way, you need one of the opinions, not just a job offer.

that what it says here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op06e.pdf

(2) the applicant is currently working in
Canada pursuant to R82(2)(b):
granted for public policy reasons
(i.e., post-graduate work,
spouse/common-law partner of
temporary skilled worker/foreign
student, etc.). AND

the work permit is valid at the time
of the permanent resident visa
application and at the time the visa
is issued; and
? the employer has made an offer to
employ the applicant on an
indeterminate basis if the
permanent resident visa is issued.

Yea, I should note that if you have an open work permit, you do not need an LMO.

There´s a restricted one. This means that you can only work for the employer noted on the work permit. An open work permit is typically given to spouses of temporary foreign workers in NOC class A, B and O and spouses of student permit holders.

It´s really not that complex. You need a work permit (based on an LMO or not if the position or applicant is exempt) or an AEO. Just follow what you posted above.

yes my work permit is only for a specified employer... yet it still exempt from HRDSC, but would i need LMO or AEO to support my application?

thanks

No you wouldn´t. You need an LMO to get a work permit. But you already have a work permit because your job is exempt from an LMO, so therefore you do not need an LMO. Forget about the AEO, as I stated above, it doesn´t apply to you. Just follow exactly what you posted above. Submit a copy of your work permit and proof that your employer is employing you on a permanent, indeterminate basis.

I think people just think things are more complicated than they are. You already have the exact information you need, directly from CIC.

thanks for your replies fbf2006,

that was my plan for awhile to go with just job offer and contract without AEO/LMO untill i ran into this case on that website http://www.immigration.ca/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31678

where the guy had a year of work experience and a company that he worked and yet he didnt get 10 points for arranged employment

I have no clue why that guy didn´t get 10 points for arranged employment, but I don´t know much about post graduate work permits.

if you´re following the excerpt from their manual you posted above, you should be fine.
