it is worthwhile to look gentlemanly and talk like a literate polite person. Yet the visa officer must be convinced it is your natural self and a pretentious image cast for the purpose of sneaking into the Cold Land!

Business casual would be probably most appropriate.

Well darlin´ If you ask me!! I spend about 20,000 canadian(well..my rich husband did)I did my shopping in Montreal ´ cause they have a very nice french style dowm there. I bought a real mink coat there. I flew back to Vancouver and went to LV store to get my purse( I got the classic one)and also bought my LV passport case . After that I went to Holt Renfrew to get some Burberry scarves and Christian Dior Highheels( They had them on sale for 550 can!! can you imagine !!! that is an excellent deal).. Well I don´t want to look pretentious but at the moment of the interview when I placed my hands over the counter showing off my diamond rings!!! The officer automatically said::: Welcome to Canada!!!
(the secret message was:: we will love your taxes!!!hahahahaa)!!!
Well...that is my personal case but I am aware not everybody shares my privileged economical pisition ...You can buy excellent fakes at Chinatown if you want to impress them. The reality is that the real thing is no better than the fake thing( i mean the good fakes)..Just stupid and obsessive people like me spend that kind of money buying the real thing...

My personal opinion

I recommend that you wear a business formal dress. You have to show the Visa Officer that you are highly motivated and interested in moving to Canada, and hence have taken the time and care to dress properly for the interview. Business casual would also be appropriate. However, wearing jeans and running shoes is definitely not appropriate, it shows a certain level of disinterest, whether it is actually true or not.
