Subject: Moving to Canada from NZ; Permanently..
  Hi all

i am seeking advice on how to move to Vancouver from New Zealand (but i am currently living in Sydney) on a permanent basis.

So far all i have found is a WHP that will allow me one year in Canada. I am wondering if i can get my WHP, and once in Canada, apply for Permanent Residency? Does anyone know the best way to go about this, OR is there a totally different way to go about it all?

I have looked at all sorts of websites but cannot find the answers i am looking for.
thanks all for your help

hi you can apply for a whv and apply for pr once in canada. apply to buffalo since its much quicker than sydney....in sydney theyre starting to process aug/sep 05 applications while buffalo are processing 2007 applications.

note both applications are totally separate and i suggest you get all docs from aus/nz for the pr visa before you leave so your not trying to get things from canada in 6-12 mths time.

to apply to buffalo you need proof that your legally admitted to canada for at least 1 yr so include a copy of the whv visa

thanks for the advice!

are you sure i am able to apply to Buffalo for PR?
i was told i need to apply to Sydney (as they process for AU and NZ)!

Also, would you know if i applied for PR close to the end of my WHV, must i come back to Australia while the PR gets processed, or would i be issued an extended visa while the PR is processed?
I believe it can take a very long time to process haha!

thanks again

you have a choice - Buffalo or your country of nationality. Sydney may actually be faster! the trick will be can you get to an interview if required.

yes as i said the law allows you to apply either in your country of citizenship or a country where you are legally admitted for 1 year or more. this means you can apply either in buffalo or sydney, at the moment sydney is very slow unless you have a full time job offer with LMO - piece of paper saying no canadian or pr can do the job.

you can apply for pr at anytime, if you apply to buffalo you must be legally admitted for 1 yr so you can apply anytime during this year and come back to aus to wait for pr if you want. you will not get an extention to the whv, you can get a job offer and lmo and get a work permit or apply for na visitor visa after whv.

no, but you should get 5 extra points for having a relative in canada - you need to prove the relationship e.g. through birth certificates and prove his living in canada

thanks again all for your help

i had an email from the SYD Consulate saying
"Applicant having a permanent job offer with LMO gets priority processing."

can someone tell me what LMO is, and where i can found out if my job (when i get one there) meets LMO requirements?

i will probably be working in the IT industry..

LMO = labour market opinion
basically its an application to services canada to say that the employer cant find a canadian to do the job, i suggest you go to the cic website www.cic.gc.ca and read up about its, its quite a complicated process

so hopfully the wait time on Perm. Residency is shorter than 3 years if i apply to the NZ embassy in Canada while im there on my work visa next year..

i wonder, has anyone ever heard of anyone being denied Perm. Residency even though they have enough points...etc?
