Subject: Skilled Worker appln transf to Detroit. Any i/p's?
  Folks,

This is my timeline:

Applied : late July 2007
AOR : mid Aug 2007 (requested me to take IELTS)
Gave IELTS in 3rd week of Sept 2007

Just got a letter in mid-Jan 2008, that my application has been transferred to Detroit. I tried to search previous threads on this website for inputs/suggestions on Detroit office. Was not satisfied with the discussions.

I am starting this thread so as to keep this topic updated. I am sure I am not the only guy whose application has been transferred to Detroit. Folks, what does this necessarily mean? That my interview is not gonna be waived? That the application process is going to get slow? I would appreciate your feedback/experiences with the Detroit office.

Peace.

Sri,

You´re a bit too worried. Transfer to Detroit means just that. Buffalo is swamped with applications, so they transfer most to the various consulates to distribute the work load.

Detroit is one of those consulates. It has no affect on whether you´ll have an interview or not. That still remains to be seen until they inform you of what´s next. But I can tell you your application is now seriously being processed.

I say all this because I went through same with my application transfered to Detroit. And all went ok.

Thank you Rich. (in reply to: Skilled Worker appln transf to Detroit. Any i/p's?)
Hello Rich,

My purpose was two-fold. One was, obviously, to seek some clarification on my own application. The other, was, to start a new thread re: satellite offices like Detroit, LA, Seattle, etc. Hopefully, others could chip in and keep this thread alive re: these satellite offices.

I appreciate your help. The only thing to do is keep a cool head and a prayer on my lips :-)

Sri

Sri,

You have it exactly right. Keep cool and I´m sure all will go well.

I think it might be difficult to keep a satellite thread going here, although a good idea for common discussions like Detroit. Unlike other forums though, the software here is not so sophisticated. Threads don´t rotate to the top of the queue.

The new Last 30 feature might be good enough to make it work though.

Get other paperwork ready (in reply to: Skilled Worker appln transf to Detroit. Any i/p's?)
Hello K,

Start working on other aspects of your application i.e. if you know upfront that there are deficiencies in items that you have sent in your package, start working on them. See, I was naive in that sense....I did not send my package till I had accumulated ALL my documents. They did not accept my Letter for IELTS waiver though. I had to give that exam.

My point is....just to make it official, you can request IELTS people to send a copy of your scores to Detroit. If you do not want to do that, just to be safe, get a photocopy notarized and send it Detroit, accompanied by a letter. I think, for guys like us, it is important not to "assume" anything, play it safe and take that extra step. I think the bureaucrats in the Consulates will definitely acknowledge your extra efforts when they evaluate your application package.

Hey man,

Quick question...this may sound silly -- when you say you "mailed" to Detroit -- did you email/snail mail them? I ask this query because the replies that I got on email from Buffalo office were very brief (understandably) and cryptic at times. Plz confirm.

On Indian consulate and POlice Clearance, I got my clearance from Houston Consulate. They were awesome, in the sense that I got my clearance within 15 days or so (or, 3 weeks -- I can´texactly recollect). Their turnaround time was great!

The ****-up was with FBI man. I got my local US fingerprints in my local police station in 10 minutes man. However, my FBI clearance from West Virginia took months man. Initially they had indicated on their website (Feb 2007) that this would take 8-10 weeks. However, they changed that to 14-16 weeks or so (check their website for exact timeframes. I am throwing nos. here). That´s where I waited man. I should have, kickatsrated the process in Feb 2007 itself. However, I awaited my FBI clearance and then only, by July 2007, sent in all my docs (except my IELTS). So, my strong suggestion to you, is, instead of waiting like me and losing time, better start working on all docs that you have not sent to them. Don´t wait for them to ask you for docs. You know what docs have not been sent and start working on them.

Hope this helps man.

Hello Sri,

Yes I did send an email and I agree with you, they sent me a brief details that they received the letter.
But its better to send a copy to them also. I will be doing it today.
Let me start work on the FBI thing. Do I need to contact local police station for the same or any site I need to refer.
All your comments are valuable to me.
Thanks,
K

Two-step process (in reply to: Skilled Worker appln transf to Detroit. Any i/p's?)
K,

You´ll have to go to your local police station and get a fingerprint check done there.

After that, just refer to the Canadian Immigration brochure (I forget the exact name) that has an application for "Police Clearance Certificate". They have all details. Just read the stuff properly. But, I would not wait a second longer....I would try to tackle this issue promptly. Why delay your application at Detroit, simply because FBI is gonna delay your clearance?
