| Subject: How long to obtain SIN number within Canada |

My spouse (Canadian Citizen) and I are moving to Canada in January 2005 and I will be applying for PR within Canada. Once I´ve sent my application off how long will it be before I receive a SIN number so that I can begin to work and approximately how long will the PR application take?

3 - 4 weeks normally if you are ellegible.

Hi Tina,
Will canadian immigration automatically issue me a SIN number whilst my application is being processed? Or will I have to wait till ´approval in principle´ which will take about 6 months, then apply for SIN?

Hello::
I see Tina misunderstood your question. It takes 4 weeks to get it once you´ve applied for it, but for doing so you need to be approved in principle first wich may take anywhere between 6 and 9 months( some people have been lucky and had it in 5 months). Once they give you this approval,you have to apply for a work permit which may take another month to get. When you get this WP in your hands you can go and apply for SIN which will take another 4 weeks.
As you can see it not going to be soon.

Hi.. we have just sent off my application for permamnet residency in canada..in canada class... i have done my blood tests and medical and x-rays and all the application fees have been paid... how long will it take for my temp SIN number to come through while my application is in progress... thanks

we have just applied for sponsorship and sent off all monies and medical requirements.. how long before i get a temporary sin number...

I have been told today that we can ask for a temporary sin number at Toronto Airport, is this correct ?? And if so how long does it tkae for this to be processed ?
