Subject: A Few Questions about going to Canada.
I plan on going to CA from USA on the 18th of Feb.
I am taking a bus and going through the peace bridge.
Just wondering if anyone can share any type of exp. they have had with going through the border on a bus.

Also, When they ask about declare items, do i need to declare everything i have? I read somewhere that -- " When being asked, Do you have anything to declare, you must answer and give them a list of everything you are bringing with you" -- yes, no?

the first question - are you coming as a tourist or permanent resident!

the bus company will offer you some instructions but they will likely ask the purpose of your visit. try to refrain from gushing about your boyfriend. they might think you are not intending to return home.

they will ask if you are bringing gifts, alcohol or tobacco.

So when they ask the reason I am coming, I should just tell them, planing on going and staying visiting a friend?

saying he is your friend is true... so without lying, I would play down how serious the relationship is.

Stacey,
You said "next time around it will be for good though", so I am assuming you are going to enter using the PR Visa the next time around ? If yes then thats when you have to declare everything that you are bringing in.
If you are not landing now then follow Sharon´s advice.

Well next time I go up there it´s for good, he´s going to sponsor me to move up there. However, before he does that, we want me to be able to go up and make sure im going to like it there and everything. He kinda forgets that Ive been use to him being w/ me for so long, that it really doesnt matter if i like it there or not haha, i miss him.

but yeah, next time will be for good. this time is just to visit.

when you decide if this is right for you, don´t be tempted to file an in-Canada sponsorship application. Go home and do it that way. But, it would mean getting married.

yikes, so much to think about.

make sure you start keeping all your receipts, phone bills, take lots of photos, especially with his family while you are there. You will need to build a case for CIC to substantiate your relationship. Marriage certificate does not cut it.

yup, you give up a little personal choice in how this all comes down - but unfortunately, that is the real world of immigration.
