Subject: last name of children
My application for canadian immigration is under process (actually, we applied to Quebec and are yet to obtain our selection certificates).

Meanwhile, we are expecting our first baby this month. We are considering giving our baby a last name that is different from ours. In our country (India), it is not obligatory that children should inherit the last name of their parents, I am not sure what the canadian/quebec law says. But our question is: will a different last name for our child pose any problems to our immigration application?

I don´t know the full rules but if you choose a different family name - without the use of DNA, how would you prove that child is yours. You are adding that child to the application after you have originally applied. If you can at all avoid complicating your file, I would do so.

It´s ridiculous that Family name should be same. Your child birth certificate will prove that baby is yours. Of course, it should mentioned the parents name and date of birth as you written in the Canadian Immigration application. And if you want ( I recommend), you can explain in a paper that in India( by law)it´s not mandatory to have your children same family name.

Do as you please but be ready to pay in excess of $1,000.00 CA to have a DNA test to prove your child is yours all do to a name.

Fraudulent documents are every where including India.

Not all people in India are nice people read about Doctor Horror who has a home in Brampton.

this is a good example of clashing customs. Perhaps the custom is very commonly practiced in India but it NEVER is practiced in Canada.

We have given you the possible consequences of your free choice - and you are free to make that choice but you must be fully prepared to defend the parenthood of that child and you will likely be adding significant additional time to your immigration application.

unfortunate but that is the way it is.

Jamil, you have a better chance of getting a response if you start your own thread. you question is off topic for this thread and may be ignored by those that can help you.

Birth certificate has names of both parents (in reply to: last name of children)
Since the birth certificate has names of both parents, why do we need a DNA test done?
