Subject: To Roy: Please Help
  Hi,
This is the first time I am posting on this website as I am trying to sponsor my partner through the common-law class.
We have been together over 5 years now (common-law) and we decide to live permanently together in Canada. Therefore, I am in the process of filling the application for common-law/spouse class.
My partner has been working in Canada for the past 5 years (since 2002) on a work permit and we met at work and almost immediately, we decided to live together. Now, here is the problem, in 2004, he renews his work permit but he DID NOT stay he´s in a common-law relationship (we have been in common-law relationship for just over a year at that point). Of course, we did not realize the problem and in 2006, he renewed the permit again and this time we filled out all the necessary documents to declare our relationsip.
My question is: would his failure to declare the common-law relationship (back in 2004, even though we "fixed" it in 2006) affect our application as the officier might consider him misrepresenting his marital status. I understand that it is just an honest mistake but rule is rule, could someone please tell me what we should do?
I am panicking right now as I don´t know if we should submit our application (we had everything done). Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

The issue has to be common sense as well.

I assume when your partner completed his/her IMM 1249 in 2004 he forgot to list you on question 1 & 2. Here is a possible reason he used the former form to fill in this one and he hates filling in forms.

Yin since you were speeding by over 15k last week when you go out for a drive today will you deliberately drive 15k slower?

You can waive a red flag and create more work for the officer who will be completing his application which he/she may not be too happy about. Who likes extra work?

Better you can sit back infront of a warm fire with your partner play some chess and sip on a good bottle of wine and deal with this minor explainable mistake if it ever surfaces.
