Subject: Questions about sponsoring my husband
  Hello!

I had some questions regarding sponsoring my husband and was hoping you people could help me out.

My husband and I have been in a relationship for six and a half years and we got married on Oct 18, 2007. I landed as an immigrant on Sept 15, 2007 and returned to Bangladesh on Oct 20 to live with my husband.

We both are planning to go to Canada and continue our studies there.

Should I sponsor my husband after going to Canada or should I do it from Bangladesh.

Which would be faster and easier?

Can we do it on our own or do we need to do it through some lawyer or agency?

What forms do we need to apply and where can we find them? I

If you can provide anything that will be helpful please do so.

Thanks a lot!

if you are not a citizen of Vancouver, you only have the option of sponsoring him from inside Canada.

he should remain in Bangladesh - it is faster.

do not be tempted to do an in canada application. 1) it takes forever. 2) if there is a problem, there is no option for an appeal.

Read in detail the following:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

All the information is there, including the forms.

Good luck!

Sharon, can you please clarify what you meant by in canada application? I thought I did not have the option of applying from outside canada. Also, how long can it take? 1 yr? 2 yrs? Please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the link Edu!

out of canada application means the sponsor (the Canadian citizen or PR) remains in Canada. the Applicant/sponsoree remains in their home country.

how long all depends on the countries involved, the amount of twists to the application.

correct.

twists? dependents not living with the applicant, previous marriage with improper documentation of the divorce, poor verification of the relationship, previous criminal convictions, errors or ommissions in the documents, cultural differences, significant age differences, anything that may suggest the relationship is one of convenience for the purpose of immigration.

not a difficult concept
