  Dear Mates,

I will present you with my case and I would a help to few questions that need answers.

I am a 42 y/o civil engineer, have a wife and two boys below 18 y/o. I have though about the Canadian passport for my kids and not for me. I have applied for the PR on 04-2002 from Cairo, Egypt. At that time, I have applied and ticked that the family will not accompany me to Canada. That because I was planning to land first, find a job, and then sponsor them later. If I fail, then I go back and do not expose my family to hard days. (I have heard many failures).
On May 2003, we have made the medical test. Jan 2004 I have received a letter to pay the landing fees and to transfer the funds to Canada. Meanwhile, I have been offered a very good job in the United Arab Emirates. Therefore, I had to keep the door open. I got approval from CIC to be retested and thus extending my visa expiry. In addition, we went through the second medical test on APR2004. A week ago, I have received the request to pay the landing fee and transfer the funds. I am planning to keep the door open again. I cannot risk the job I have now, and as per the law, I have to live in Canada 2y in every 5y to maintain my PR. That means I have 3y from landing to finally make my mind.

Now here are my questions:
A- Once I submit to them the landing fees receipt and the fund transfer proof, how long it will take to obtain the COPR? Should I be personally available as I am not in Egypt now?
1- If I pay the landing fee for both my wife, and me will they issue the COPR to all of us?
2- If I land alone and come back, will it be easy later to sponsor them? How long it take to get them into Canada?
3- I understand from the web site that the financial proof for supporting the sponsored members is not applicable for sponsoring the spouse and kids, it that understanding correct?
4- Which is better to land all (if the answer of 1 is yes) and pay now extra landing fees and airfares, or to land alone and postpone their landing until I make my mind?

Hi . If you have a good job and you don´t have any threats againts your life: Do not come to Canada. Here there is not but discrimination, not good paid work, not experience recognized, not professional studies recognized and cold winters.

If you did not incdicate that your family is accompanying you to Canada now, it makes no sense to pay for their landing. However, a landing permit is valid for a certain length of time after it is granted. If your family is to follow you within that time period, it is a good idea to pay their landing fees too. I should caution you, like the guy above, to think very very seriously why you want to go to Canada. It is unhealthy to think that Egypt and middle east is inferior to other places. If you are not under the gun and have job security, it might help you to accumulate more cash before eventually moving to Canada. If you go to Canada with a million CAN$, you can give yourself and your kids time to adjust. If you have meager savings and spend it on moving to Canada, the dance begins after the arrival. Canada wants skilled people but you have to swiftly and deftly without questions or doubts adapt to the new demands and rise to the occasion constantly. Coming from Egypt, you might face a serious challange to prove your Canadian Experience. There is a case of an Indian family that moved to Canada ostenbly to give a chance to their kids of the benefits of an advanced society. But they kept close links with their extended family back home, like most asians do. When this girl wanted to marry a random Indian she met while visiting India and refused to change her mind, the family had her slaughtered with a ceremonial sword. So much for giving kids a chance! Can you think about the world and human life in a broader sense, than simply associating middle-east with madness and West with high-values?

our friends paint a very bleak picture of a new life in Canada but I am afraid I must partially agree with them. Canada is looking for skilled workers, but has not found adequate ways to measure international skills and apply them to the Canadian work situation. It is a very big problem and everyone knows it. This weekend there was a 2 page spread in the newspaper about the plight of foreign trained medical professionals who cannot find Canadian work. At least there are some efforts to change it. In the mean time, from what I see, a large number of hopeful immigrants are coming to Canada with Engineering or IT experience and training. There are so many applicants for so few jobs that an employer can be very picky about who he hires. If your language skills are not perfect, there is likely someone else (immigrant or not) equally qualified who had the language and will get the job. It is not racist or prejudice... it is good hiring practices. You will need to be flexible about what kind of work you will do when you come here - at least in the beginning.

You likely have a fairly good standard of living in your country because of your education. Do not make the mistake of assuming your life will be better or easier in Canada. Some new Canadians say it is, others are not so happy. Some of your decisions already indicate that you have some reservations about the entire idea. Now you have a job offer in another country. There is something to be said for a job offer! Especially in a country close to your family, with similar cultural and religious values and a good standard of living. I do not think Canada could make that kind of offer.

You are fortunate. You have some positive choices. Not everyone is so lucky. I am sorry that I do not have answers about your actual immigration details but I am sure someone else will jump in on that part of your question.

my advice is , come here as a family , with kids and wife . Then go to u.a.e. and keep that job ,leave your family here like many other .Work there and by this time try to find a job here . So you will have a job and your kids will get education.

Dear Sharon, American refuse,
You have a magical influence in most of this group members but why u don´t want to understand that applicants here had spent so much money to immigrate and now that easily u r telling them " just quit your immigration case". I really appreciate both of you advices as u r there in Canada and we r blinds here in our countries.

My question for you If I´m a Doctor e.g and had the exams and accredtation process will it be difficult to get a job in Canada even I passed all their exams for accredetation. I mean I have now the same Canadian graduate bachelor, will the employer presist on Canadian experience along Canadian bachelor. At this point I´ll say GOOD BYE CANADA FOR EVER AND PRAY FOR GOD THAT CANADA WILL NEVER BENEFIT FROM MY MONEY I PAID FOR THEM coz we pay thousands and they use regular mail that always get lost in post offices!!!

Again, I appreciate your advices and plz keep doing that role and never quit the good work.

To be very honest, right now it is very difficult for foreign trained medical professionals to find work in their field immediately after immigration. In Canada, it is a high profile issue and concern. They are working hard to change this problem and perhaps by the time your application is complete, they will have a better system to integrate foreign trained professionals. Truthfully, you need to be mentally and emotionally prepared to work in a job that is different than your skill level. That does not mean your life can not be satisfying and successful, but you asked a specific question that forces a truthful answer.

Those that come as IT professionals and engineers are facing similar problems. There are not enough IT jobs for every IT professional that is in the Immigration system. Engineers face retraining to Canadian standards. Something is going to have to change. It is not serving Canada or Immigration applicants well. In my own thinking, pure education for points is not working. I know there is some kind of Governent Task Force beginning in March/April to look at this issue. Hopefully we might get some positive changes that will mean you can help us with our medical professional shortage.
