Subject: From the US to Canada
  Hi guys and girls,

This query is not about any specific problem related to immigrating to Canada. However, it is of great interest to learn what makes people currently LEGALLY living in the US to decide to move to Canada. I hope the Forum Administrators will let this topic stay. I don´t think it is about better ot worse place but I believe there are reasons for the move. I am greatly enthusiastic to learn about these reasons. Please respond anonymously if you do not like to identify yourself. Also please do not respond if you are not in fact moving from the US to Canada.

Unfortunately, this is a myopic approach to life. Besides, Bush´s tenure permanently ends in 4 years. Moving to another country is a much more tenuous and lasting decision. So it sounds fickle-minded to merely say "I hate that pres so I move!"

Beside Bush, but my America is fighting at least two countries every year. Bush seem to keep up quite well with this strategy.

Fanatics are fanatics and they should pay for what they have done. However, we should ask ourselves why are these fanatics attacking US? Why not Canada or Sweden? Because Canada nor Sweden, like many other countries are not poking their nose in someone-elses business.

The global outreach of the US is much more complex and sometimes ill-articulated making it a loved or hated nation wroldwide. But this is true of Helenic Greece, Ancient Rome, Pre-Budhist India and Soviet Union as well. The liited outreach of other nations (Canada etc) makes them look neutral. However, there were times when Canadians were hunted down in Somalia (I was there and know this firsthand). Being a citizen of a superpower can indeed become a burden and cause psychological attrition. My concern about the US is its uncontrolled deficits and debts. As the debt swells to consume the GDP, I bail out. The debt is not going to pay itself off. And there is too much recklessness among Republicans. They are like a Tornado when it comes to inflicting swift and lasting damage on the economy everytime one of them gets into the Big house.

I think the reason why most people move to canada (or just get the PR) is that most of them are in Temporary visas (H1)in US and want to have access to Canda in case if they are laid off from their jobs in US. They may say different reasons but the only real reason is they want a home in developed world to go for.

In my case, I am beginning to feel that the US is betraying the very values that it was set up to protect: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, the country is increasing being controlled by an intolerant (and growing) group which has no qualms about using a particular religious view to decide basic issues such as who you decide to share you life. As Hannah Arendt noted: "Even political rights, like the right to vote, and nearly all other rights enumerated in the [US] Constitution, are secondary to the inalienable human rights to ´life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness´ proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence; and to this category the right to home and marriage unquestionably belongs." It is odd in a way that the descendents of the "independent" minded US colonists now seem to want to reintroduce some form of state religion.
I hope this is not too long-winded or abstract, but it might help you understand what is motivating a US-born citizen to relocate to Canada.
