Subject: Do my six year old son need to stay physically can
  Hello friends,
My wife and six year old son immigrated Canada in April 2007 as PR. Now my wife is planning to go back to my country while I am staying. My question to you :

1) do my son needs to stay with me to apply for citizenship or I can apply on behalf of him when I would be eligible?

2) Does he needs to physically present in the citizenship ceremony. Remember he is now six year old.
Thanks.
Hoss.

I cannot imagine why residency rules would not apply to children. I am 99% sure a proxy application will not be acceptable.

not only would he have to be physically present in the citizenship ceremony, he would have to be present in Canada 3 years out of the next 5

Sharon,
You are a senior guy and always providing good advaice and suggestion to people here. But I think you are not correct in this regard please read

Once you become Canadian citizen you can apply for him but not before that.

I stand corrected. I must confess I am a little surprised that a child can be in the country for less than 6 months an gain citizenship.

but there you go... you answered your own question.

hoss,
Some clarification needed here in light of previous responses...
This is what I think needs to happen.
In order to apply for your citizenship, you need to stay for 3 out of the last 4 years, not 3 of 5. Also, you don´t have to wait till you become a citizen to apply for your son, but you both can apply for the citizenship together once you are eligible.
Good Luck.

I admitted I was wrong about the rules. and my opinion is my opinion- it is not a judgement, it is a personal comment about the rules of my own country that would appear very different than what is required of adults and permanent residency.

I would recommend watching those rules very carefully as there are serious discussions about changes to the citizenship act that may impact what you are discussing.

sharon,
Don´t take this in a bad way, we know that you genuinely want to help people but sometimes you just finish your posting in a kinda.... what should I say, not a very appreciative tone and some may take it very offensively because like in this case you came off as if you were really pissed because you were wrong, and just take it as a sincere suggestion from me, but after you have written down your entire post, just before pushing the "Submit" button, delete the last line and then hit it.... I think it will be good.
My 2 cents.

contrary to public opinion, I have zero problem being wrong or admitting when I am wrong. I am sorry if my disbelief in my own government came across as judgemental.

People are entitled to use the rules that are in place whether I think they make sense or not. that is between me and my national government.
