Vancouver is a different place from Vancouver Island.

Vancouver is the 3rd largest city in Canada. Vancouver Island is about 2 hours by boat from Vancouver, and has several smaller cities - Victoria (provincial capital) and Nanaimo are the largest.

I live in Vancouver and have a bias towards the mild west coast climate and our lifestyle. You could not pay me to live in Toronto. I am sure there are many that would say the exact opposite.

Ill give u some idea of what vancouver island is base of what ive heard from my husband. He lives in Vancouver Island particularly Sooke BC and work in Victoria the nicest city in vancouver island. He said, in Victoria, its the nicest but most expensive city to live with. But he grew up in Ontario, i think its part of Toronto if im not mistaken, and he said its more crowded. I ask him, if he would go back and setlle there, he said, he wont cuz he find vancouver island the nicest place although there a lot of jobs opportunities in Toronto.
Sharon is right, vancouver island is just 2 hours away by boat or half an hour away by plane from main island which the Vancouver.

Vancouver does not have any automotive manufacturing, which is what I believe you are looking for.

the greater Toronto area would have more opportunity in that regard BUT the industry is currently in a tail spin so be prepared to consider alternatives until things turn around in the US economy.

Vancouver is boring (in reply to: Vancouver island Vs Toronto)
If the City of Vancouver is pretty damned boring... Can you picture yourself living in Victoria??
There are just two cities in Canada: one is Toronto and the other one Montreal
