Subject: BC Medical for common-law during sponsorship
  Hi,
My situation.
I am about to sponsor my common-law partner (the application is prepared and ready for mailing).I am Canadian, she is German, we met in 2000 while I lived/worked professionally in Germany,(I was a non-resident for tax purposes at the time but have returned to Canada as of 2006 and have became a resident again). I am employed in Canada, and my work pays for supplemental health care for myself, my commonlaw partner while she is currently here visiting(she is included in my file as my commonlaw partner), and our daughter that we had together 4 years ago. We intend on living together fully in Canada when the application is approved. She stays with us(our duaghter and I) as much as legally possible before flying back to Germany before 6 months in up, and then returns.

My question.
If she gets pregnant while the application is being processed, can we have the baby in Canada, covered by BC Medical, or must it get covered under my supplimental Insurance if they cover pregnancy and birth(I need to find out that information, but because it is supplemental Insurance, it picks up where BC Medical drops off so if BC Medical covers the birth then it is moot ). We want to have another baby, but don´t want to wait for the approval of application because of the possible length of wait, and then 3 month wait for BC Medical to start after approval. Also, what happens if she is gets pregnant during the application review process and the due date for birth is after an approval of landed immigrant status is official? Thanks

Live here or live there. I assume that is why you have not already sponsored them as of yet.

Dave its time to fish and stop cutting bait.

Get your application in with all supporting documents including proof of no convictions and medicals ASAP. In about a month Mississauga CPC will approve you and if you show a strong bond by doing your application correctly expect another four or five months. In theory it could be as fast as 3-4 months.

Cost of a pregnancy not covered would be 3-7 thousand but baby is covered the second it takes its first breath.

Good Luck

I don´t think anyone here knows about German immigration rules or visa requirements.

sorry for your problem. I would suggest you visit the nearest German Consulate to find the answer you need.
