Yes you can request CIC to use passport as birth certificate. Or you can contact the embassy of your country to issue you a certificate of birth based on your passport.

Hi, litlle confusing. As far as I know, birth Certificate is details of you ( name, birthday, address) and your Parents name and birthday. Passport does not meet these criterias.

If Passport would replace by the birth certificate than CIC would never asked for SW application birth certificate.

Some countries issue passports with all the details: name, parents name, address and date of birth. And in a lot of Asian countries birth certificate is a relatively new thing. CIC does ask for birth certificate. You can submit other documents to prove your date of birth. The best option is to get certificate of birth from the embassy of your country, if it issues the same. It is upto CIC to accept or not.

From what I have seen, not all people are asked to submit birth certificate if they submit other proofs.

By the way, CIC also asks for transcripts in sealed envelopes but a lot of people do submit photocopies or notarized copies. Some of them are asked to provide further information, some of them are not.

Hi, I just want to add that birth certificte is not only relatively new thing for Asian countries but also for European too.

I had to ask for birth ceritficate (for my son who born in Finland) and they were surprised cause all new born babies are registered their system when they born. First, they put only baby´s mother name and date of birth and I claimed that there should be also father´s too.

I understand that Canada has it´s own rules but they should harmonize that system in order to make it easier for new coming immigrants.
