Subject: failed marriage
  Hi,

I have a friend who visited the country several times and met a woman here. on his last visit they decided to marry and be together. They were together for about a year and a half and he got his landed immigrant card. Recently his wife, cheated on him and kicked him out of the house, now she is threatening to have him deported by divorcing him and voiding the paper work. Is this even possible? Can he get a regular divorce and not worry about having to leave the country?

if he is landed and the marriage was genuine... the wife of your friend is blowing smoke! they can divorce under Canadian law but surprise, surprise, her undertaking with the Canadian goverment still stands for 3 years from the date of landing.

Actually, she must be concerned about him using public services and welfare help, which will default to her! He has really nothing to worry about. If she cheated on him and he has any kind of proof, she is toast! May have to pay palimony on top of covering all the divorce expenses.
