Subject: leaving canada before PR is received
  Hi
I have an important question regarding leaving canada before my passport request is received.
I am an international student in canada. I applied for p.residency a while ago. I passed my interview and medical forms are all being sent to me. However, I want to know if that would be risky if I leave canada to my country before I receive the passport request letter from the immigration office. I should also add this that I won´t be able to re-enter canada from my country since I don´t have re-entry visa. My address in canada would be the same though(I have my roomates to check the mailbox).
Any advice would be helpful,

Yes, you can leave Canada but do keep a mailing address in Canada.

May I ask you how (did you apply as skilled worker?), when (while you were still in school?) and how long did it take you to get the medical forms (is that the last step?) I´m in the same shoes as you are but not sure if I qualify for PR...yet...still in school.

I applied for immigration on March 2006, while I was a student in Master´s program in Canada. I just got my medical forms (3 weeks after my interview).
The last step is the medical exam I guess!

I have another question. Does anyone know how long it take from the time you do medical test until you get your passport request (application in Buffalo)

It usually takes 4-12 weeks. It all depends on how fast Ottawa processes the medical and whether your background checks are complete. Ottawa usually takes 3-6 weeks to process medicals.

And how long it takes from when you send your passport until you receive your passport back and actually land here?

Passport is usually returned within 15 working days. You can land the same day if you want to.
