Subject: Rented car or train !URGENT!
I am going to Canada next month.

- US to Canada
1. I am thinking of 2 possible options, rent a car from Seattle to Vancouver (dont want to fly straight to Vancouver since getting better deal on airfare on flying in to Seattle from AZ)

2. Can I take a train from Seattle to Vancouver? Any issues at the border srossing?

- Canada to US

On my way back (from Vancouver to Seattle) can I take Amtrak or renting a car will be a better option?

you need to find out if the train station has the facilites to land you in Vancouver. if not, they may need to do it at the border. My question would be... would the train wait for you???

going back, either option is fine.

Seema, train would defintely wait for you because this is built in system when crossing the border. Canadian immigration will ask for your passport, check the visa and stamp the enry and you are done. Train usually wait for this process to be completed because its not only you who would travel by train. A lot of visitors use train and to handle the custom and immgration issue train will stop and wait. Incase of some unusual issues or concerns with your entry to Canada, they will inform you and they will let the train go obviously and you will wait for another train to come. In that case if it takes a lot of time to get entry clearnce, you will have to spend a night in a motel near the border and catch the next train. Your same ticket will be valid for next train. So keep this in mind when travelling by the train.

"Neither Amtrak nor VIA Rail Canada nor any other carrier is in any way liable in the event that you are denied entry or delayed on your trip. Please note that trains or buses will not be delayed at the border on your behalf if you are detained."
