Subject: Immigrating to Canada from California, USA.HELP!!!
Hi, I am from California, born and raised there, and I want to immigrate to Nova Scotia, Canada, I have a girlfriend that a Canadian citizen over there. I have went to the Canada immigration website and it is really confusing on how the stuff works.

I don´t know if this information would help any better:

I am currently a certified and licensed pharmacy technician in California and have a high school diploma along with some college courses under my belt.

I just want an easy way of settling there, is there anyone out there that has any advice or tips. Thank you

Hiren: Your best bet is try to immigrate as a Federal Skilled Worker. Take the test at http://www.cic.gc.ca to see if you qualify with enough points and to learn about the process. The process is straightforward enough, but the wait is long; about a year and a half from the US right now, I believe, after your application and paperwork are received. If you are accepted, you will have Permanent Resident status. Citizenship is another thing completely, and requires you to live legally in Canada for at least 3 years before applying.

If you and your girlfriend get married, you have the option of going the sponsorship route, but that´s another beast altogether. I´m not an expert there, but I do sense that there are more hurdles and possibilities for refusal.

Immigrating is serious business; there is no "easy" way. An American cannot just show up and ask to be admitted as a Canadian. The CIC website shows in exact detail how the process works and what is expected of you: what documents you will need to supply (including but not limited to: school transcripts, letters from all previous employers, addresses of all places you´ve lived since 18, letters of no misconduct from the FBI and possibly from your state, information on all dependents, etc); how much money you will need (both for processing fees as well as for settling--settling fees are roughly $10,000 Canadian for a single person right now I think); what the medical tests entail; and an idea of how long processing is taking currently.

Good luck on your journey.

Get married with your girl friend (if you like) and move there in 4-5 months without getting much into details. Otherwise go for other options, information is handy on www.cic.gc.ca

I heard that you can apply for permanent residence once you are inside canada and married to your spouse under the family class. I am from US so I don´t know if I would need Visa to stay there or not, because the last time I visited I didn´t need a Visa. My girlfriend would like to marry me. Is it true I can apply for permanent residence inside Canada when I marry her.

Yes, you can apply in Canada. And you do not need a visa to enter Canada if you are a US citizen.
