| Subject: Moving to Canada from UK, student debt? |

As a first year University student in the U.K I have been thinking about moving abroad after my degree programme and work experience. I would pass the points test to move to Canada after this, but I am wondering what happens with the student debt that has accumulated whilst studying in the U.K?

Canada is almost like a colony of Britain so the long arm of British collection services can easily reach (in my opinion) the Canadian towns, just in case you decide to default on your loans and move here. However, there may be a way to conceal where you went and the British loans can rot! If you want to be honest, you can keep sending them checks (from canada) periodically until the loans are paid off. I hope somebody with more direct experience will answer this question.

My friend, your credit history in UK will not come with unless you want to bring it yourself. In Canada, you will build a new credit history and it has nothing to do with your UK records. So do not worry however, i would suggest not to ruin your credit and keep paying them minimum payments because when you will go back to UK you will need credit for many things , right. If you do not want to go to UK then its a different story.
