Subject: Tax Treaty with U.S.
  Hi colleagues,

This is for the Canada tax experts here.

Does anyone know how American income already taxed in the U.S. is handled when reporting Canadian taxes? In particular, the Canada Revenue website talks about tax treaties with other countries to avoid double taxation. The U.S. is one of them. It implies income such as pensions, bank interest, and other income is possibly deductible if a tax treaty exists.

Any American ex-pats with U.S. income come across this when doing your Canadian income tax return?

Both IRS & CRA share income data since 9/11. That is how PR´s who are working and living in the States are being caught for violating their residency requirements.

A branch office of the Canada Revenue Agency Investigators are in my building and that make me really comfortable.

I strongly suggest you ask only a CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANT because the IRS or CRA type people can really make your life hell over just a few unclaimed dollars.

Well if you need cheap help filing both the US and Canadian taxes, you may consult H R Block. They exist on both sides of the border and specialize in taxes on both sides.
