Subject: Employer not willing to file LMO
  Friends,

I have a situation. I appreciate if anyone could help.

I am currently working on post-graduate work permit and it is expiring in May 2008. I have already applied for PR (processing start date : Dec 27, 2007) under Highly skilled category, but I am not sure how long it is going to take even to get medicals. Few of my friends who applied in September ´07 got their medicals in Feb ´08, which is slightly encouraging. But, I don´t think I will get my PR before my work permit expires. in My employer is not willing to file LMO for extending my post-graduate permit to convert it to a LMO-based permit, to cover me for the time till I get my PR further to work-permit expiry date.

1)Do you know any lawyer who dealt with such situations?
2)Is there anyway to expedite the PR process, explaining them my case? (I am probably hoping for too much)
3)What are the options I have (I figured that I can enroll myself at University), except for leaving job and Canada and enter Canada once I get my PR, looking for job all over again? I prefer to remain in Canada even if I have to change jobs.

Thanks for your time.

Did you offer to cover the costs of advertising your position and covering that cost for LMO?

Did you seek out another employer who may be willing to seek a LMO?

Sometimes when you want something bad you need to stand up for yourself and be counted instead of waiting for others to do things for you on your behalf.

You have options yourself.

If you are highly skilled & can get job in IT / Computer programming under one of the LMO exempt categories.

This will solve your problem.

or do as Roy suggested.

Find another employer who may be willing to give a LMO.

I am now advertising in Europe for Oil Rig workers, Carpenters, Bricklayers and Cement Finishers any country that does not need a CVV.

LMO´s in Ontario are now taking at least a month up 500% processing times in just two months.

It seems the LMO is the way of the future.

Swamped lately.

Let me put it this way.

If the applicant is Portuguese and the company is owned by a Portuguese-Canadian which most construction companies are. The fact that the boss speaks fluent Portuguese and most of the workers speak Portuguese the LMO can reflect that a foreign language like Portuguese would be an asset.

If your a finishing carpenter and you have lots of experience hanging doors and putting in windows language is not a major issue. All the applicant would have to know is UP-DOWN, RIGHT-LEFT LITTLE-MORE.

What we do now is we get any person admitted on a employer specific work permit a red seal so they can work in other provinces by having their credentials recognized. Then we apply for Permanent Residency.
