Subject: Edmonton Landing
I landed in Edmonton from USA, I was surprised to find that Edmonton is not a big city. I am wondering if there is a better place to settle than Edmonton. I am planning on starting my new life either where I can get a engineering job or probably own up a fast food franchise like AW or Subway, any suggestions, thanks

Cheers

Hi,
For engineering job you must have Canadian job related references. For franchise business, you must have a good experience in that business AND a lot of $$$$$$$$. As far as selection of city is concerned, you should visit city web site of different big cities like Toronto, Bramption, Ottawa, Calgary, etc.

Good luck,

I have a doctorate in mechanical engineering and few years of experience. I am open to academic and industry jobs but i guess the jobs are not to many in any of the areas. i am less concerned with weather as compared to city life and living standard i keep. i understand about the franchise business and know about the how much money it needs to start up. Just thinking of checking out more cities, how is life around Vancover or Toronto area? Thanks for your input.

Mechanical Engineering is huge in Alberta and BC, a lot of demand and jobs HOWEVER it is regulated profession in Canada and in order to practice engineering in this part of the world there is a procedure that you have to follow.
You need a provincial certification in order to practice engineering. It will be easy or difficult to obtain depending on where did you get your education from and how many years of experience you have.

Vancouver and Toronto I think are the two biggest cities in Canada but you are going to have to research if the demografics fit you business plan.

Good luck in your future endevours.

Cheers
