we are moving to toronto next month, and i hv been going thru many forums, in some i found there are a lot of racial discrimination in the job sector, how true is it and how bad is it. will the kids also suffer at school, at the hands of the locals. can u appraise me on this. and one more query, how tough is it to get an administration job, like secretary, data entry or reception jobs.
thanks
clara

not sure what sort of forums you are reading but major cities in Canada are some of the best in the world for racial tolerance. No place on earth is perfect - not even the country you come from.

If your attitude is good, your command of english is good, and your skills are average - finding a job should not be a problem.

Hi! i was going thru employment sites in canada and accidentaly came across a site called NOCANADA, and i was shocked to see the kind of discussions uploaded, it drained the excitement of coming to canada in me. i know no country is perfect, but that was not the mindset abt canada. anyway hoping for the best. and thanks anyway

About the worse thing one could be in Toronto and area is a racist.

Clara 99% of the people believe its whats inside that counts.

Kids only care if the other kid is cool or not. The Fraser report on High Schools are out and in the suburbs west and north of Toronto the schools rated the highest in the province. You can check that on line.

There are people here that will post pro this and anti that based on economy etc. but that mostly is good debate normally.

What surprises me is that you have been going through a PR process for how long and only now beginning to research settlement issues!

Certain areas of Toronto or any city should be preferred and avoided due to current trends. Toronto has a vibrant inner city life and there is a major lack of urban decay. The cities outside of Toronto has their advantages and disadvantages and so do all neighborhoods everywhere.

It is what you want in life and whether you can afford it now. Once you understand the transit systems and that is what you should focus on so you learn how to get around initially.

Do not worry about any racial stuff in Toronto. Getting a job is all your qualities, skills, experience, education and language. Your background would not affect your job search if you meet the job requirement. However, i would suggest that as a newcomer you should start volunteering with some organizations of your interest if you can not find a job immediatly. Iam confident that this would help. Kids would be fine in the schools as well. Do not worry about this kind of stuff at all. notocanada.com is a story of an individual and it does not represent Canada at all. So i wish you all the best.

I agree with Mike. You can´t feel the reality until you get your own experience.I am very sure that getting a good job depends on the person ( applicant) if other situation is on his/her side.

People teliing in this forum how hard it is to get a job BUT they never experienced the Finnish situation. I am waiting for PR decision. I am from Finland and I am sure that I SHALL get a good job since I did get a job in Finland.

Good luck to you Clara.

I have been winning Humanitarian and Compassionate applications for years based on the processing times being something not anticipated by the Act or the Regulations.

Welcome to Toronto!
