In response to the query--why would US citizens move to Canada? In my case, I am beginning to feel that the US is betraying the very values that it was set up to protect: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, the country is increasing being controlled by an intolerant (and growing) group which has no qualms about using a particular religious view to decide basic issues such as who you decide to share you life. As Hannah Arendt noted: "Even political rights, like the right to vote, and nearly all other rights enumerated in the [US] Constitution, are secondary to the inalienable human rights to ?life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence; and to this category the right to home and marriage unquestionably belongs." It is odd in a way that the descendents of the "independent" minded US colonists now seem to want to reintroduce some form of state religion.
I hope this is not too long-winded or abstract, but it might help you understand what is motivating a US-born citizen to relocate to Canada.

Your posting really touched me. It sums up my exact reasons for wanting to immigrate. My partner is from a different country but there is no way that my country will allow us to be together. We don´t bother anyone. We just want to live our life and as I said in the past "All men are created equal" (I guess that means if you´re white, anglo-saxon, heterosexual). So if I´m white, 3rd generation Italian, homosexual, forget it! It makes me sick that I have to look for another country to live in because my own country won´t let me stay here with my partner. It makes me even more sick when I see a man and a woman get married for a hefty sum of money just for the green card and they get away with it. It´s just not fair!

I wonder what will be the impact on Canada from these kind of migrations. Does thi smean most American gay folks who want to marry will end up in Canada? I hope if that happens, Canada does not become fodder for late night comedians as a fruity nation or whatever. They already don´t have their own currency in Canada (the Queen is the Real Head of State in Canada and not a Canadian). I think I have seen a few gay men who went to Canada years ago, became full citizens there and are now living and earning in NYC. They are all Asians and seem to have had troubles getting US PR.
