Subject: Outside of Canada common-law application
  Hello everyone,

I am sponsoring my British common-law husband, but we have recently decided to proceed with an external application. Could anyone clarify if this plan is feasible:

1) As a Canadian citizen, am I eligible to sponsor him if I am living outside of Canada?

2) His application would be processed through the London office, but does he have to be living permanently in the UK? Can we travel during the process? Live in other EU countries?

Does it make more sense to apply externally? I have been told that the processing times are much shorter, so would it be a short term inconvenience for long term gain? We are both currently living in Canada, but his Visa expires in May.

Thanks for any insight

One your CL spouse is just visiting Canada so show his residential address in the UK if that is where he normally resides.

As a Canadian you can sponsor him from anywhere but from your posting if your living together your already in Canada unless your BOTH planning on returning to the EU. If you submit while residing outside of Canada you have to state on the forms when you intend to return to Canada.

Traveling is not a problem.

Make sure you prove your relationship and fill in the CL form really well.
