Hello everyone,

Please if you can, provide your much appreciated advice or comment...

How long do you think they will wait (CIC) for me to provide them with my last required document (police report)?

We got our med request on Nov 26, 2007, along with this we were asked to send a police report we didn´t send the firt time, and the Right of Permanent Residence Fee...

We sent the medical exams and the money on Jan 21st, 2008... with these we sent a letter explaining that we will work on getting the police report and asked them to give us until the second week of April to get it...

We are working on getting the police report but it´s taking longer than I expected...

I am about to write to CIC to ask them for more time and to send a receipt they gave us when we requested the police report to prove that we are working on getting it but it is out of our hands to expedite it... we were told to wait about 1 -1/2 to 2 months for it... it´s being 1 -1/2 months already!

Do you think I´m playing with fire here... I really do not want CIC to close my file ... can´t they do this without contacting me first?

I am very frustrated to have this problem and not being able to do much more to solve it... we COULD NOT have gotten this police report before do to special circumstances involved in getting it...

Please give me your opinion... if you have been in a similar situation share your experience with me....

Thank you very much...

Lily

Hello Lily,

I am pretty surprised that you received your medicals along with request for police report request from CIC London.

In our case they had asked for police certificate (updated one- after 2 years) and after they received from us we recvd the medical forms within 2 months.

They also stated that we had to submit the police report in 3 months.

Note : We received our visas in 2006. Im not sure if the rules have changed now and that they sent everything together i.e requesting for police certificate and also sending medical papers at the same time. Im confused.

Anyway if the police report is taking too long I hope that they don´t doubt that you have some criminal records (even though u may not have any) hence the delay in providing them with the police report.

A letter stating the unexpected delay may help to a certain extent.

All the best and Good Luck.

Thanks Steve...

Yes, I know that it doesn´t make sense for you guys...

Actually we failed to summit this particular police report from the very beginning because we couldn´t get it...

Here is the ´painful´ details of our situation...

My husband (Syrian) left his native country ages ago without serving the military... in Syria it is compulsory for all male citizens to serve the military... if you don´t you are in big trouble... you are not allowed to go back... at some point he had troubles even renewing his passport... you could also pay a fine and request a pardon from the government...

Non having served the military is considered a criminal offece and the only way to enter Syria (if you haven´t serve the military) is if you have a special permission and in case of a grave emergency...

At the time of our initial application, the only way for us to get a police report was to pay a US$ 15,000 fine (yes you read it right) ... we didn´t want to pay this absurd amount of money... so, we decided to write a letter explaining the situation to CIC and sent our application with all other documents required at the time...

We updated our application later on ... and then it was time for medicals... and so forth...

Luckly for us... in between things... a new law came out (Syrian) allowing people like my husband to pay a lesser fine after turning 42 years of age... the fine now was
US$ 5,000... we got our request for medical in Dec 2007... my husband´s 42nd birthday was in Feb 2008 (all this time we were waiting for him to turn 42 so we could pay the fine and get the police report... ) but CIC gave us until Feb 26th to send medicals, RPRF, and the police report... sooooooooooooooooo... that is the story...

We explained all of this to CIC when we requested extra time to get the report from Syria...

Now we have already pay the $5000 and are waiting to get the police report... but were told that this thing has to go through many different government agencies and that it takes longer than just a regular police report...

So does it make sense now?

What do you think?

Hi Lily,

I have met two visa officers from the London office (at the Emigrate show) and they seemed very reasonable. Last one I met a few months ago and asked a similar question (FBI stated time to send certificate back was longer than what CIC London has given) and he said if you send them a letter explaining the situation, they would understand and give you more time.

Of course, very visa officer is different and thus I cannot tell you what their response would be in your particular case. But I suspect that if you send them a letter explaining the situation, they would understand and hopefully give you more time to get the certificate.
