Subject: Very urgent - Pregnancy and Immigration
  Hi all

kindly help with your valuable advices. We (me and my husband) got our visas in December and now i am 6 months pregnant. We are moving from India to Canada. Will there be any problem if i travel now and have my baby in Cananda? Nothing has been metioned to the canadian embassy regarding this. Expecting an early reply. thanxs in advance

The one difficulty I can foresee is that some provinces (notably the two that receive the majority of immigrants -- Ontario and British Columbia) do not provide health coverage until you have been physically resident in the province for a minimum of 3 months. So you may have to pay for the pregnancy and birth expenses yourself, or try to get private insurance.

Also, residency within a province to qualify for health care is different that permanent residency in Canada. You can be a permanent resident of Canada, but still not qualify as a resident of Ontario if you haven´t actually lived in Ontario for at least three months.

Having your baby in Canada will be no problem in regards to your permanent resident status. The above person is right when they mention the heatlh coverage issues, but if you can deal with that, then you, your husband and baby will have no immigration issues to worry about.

It is true that you are not covered by the province health insurance before 3 months. But I heard that you should be covered for pregnancy. So check with them by email.

Good luck.
