Subject: Another "dependent" question.
I´ve been looking at all my forms and I´m a little confused. My SO has two sons, ages 22 and 25. They are not immigrating and never intend to. Do they still have to be listed on the form and have medicals done? Both sons have been living on their own for years. Thanks for your help.

if your SO does not consider them as their dependent then i do not think they should be included. Anyways, more reliable information will come from specialist on this forum.

Mike, you need to learn the rules before you give advices that could ruin someone´s life.

children MUST be listed even if they are not part of the intended immigration plans.

If they must be listed, do they have to have a medical examination? That is a lot of money (they only accept cash) we don´t have for someone who will not be immigrating. Thanks.

Here comes the expert advice. Thats what i told in my reply that more reliable information will come from SPECIALISTS. So Jennifer, you may count on Sharon´s advice or wait for MORE EXPERT ADVICE, which is defintely on its way. I do not want to comment on rules part because i do not want to argue with people with ego problems. Have a glass of cold water and take deep breath, Ms Sharon. You are crossing your limits now.

Jennifer,
I believe even non-accompanying members have to undergo medical exams, but they can be exempted in certain cases.... I think you need to find out how.

On a side note.... once they are exempted, they will not be eligible for Family Class sponsorship in the future.... I know that sucks !! but you have a choice now.... think for the future....

On another side note.... try to lookup more doctors on the CIC list and ask them for prices.... you will be surprised... they vary from doc to doc.... maybe you might find someone who does it cheaper....

Good luck !!

I will call around but at this point it´s almost an extra $500. As most of you know, when you are getting all of this done the money adds up quickly.

Mike, if you can´t cope with being wrong or corrected, don´t answer questions that you are not confident about the answers. Wrong advice could cost Jennifer her permanent residency.

Jennifer, it is my understanding you must list them but the older one would not be required to take medicals as he would not be eligible for inclusion in your application unless he was financially dependent and a full time student. The 22 year old may be required to do the medical exam simply because in ´theory´ he may qualify to be included.

This age thing and inclusion/exclusion is a little bit tricky.

strange rules, I know.

Help (in reply to: Another "dependent" question.)
Well, that was a depressing fact-finding mission. The only physician doing medical exams in SO´s son´s state charges $458 for the exam, plus pictures, so now it´s close to $1000 for two people who are not immigrating. If anyone knows of a way to have them exempted, I would appreciate any advice. I won´t lie because that would jeopardize our file. At this point, I may be moving back to the United States.

DEPENDENT CHILDREN AS PER THE IMM 008 PAGE TWO

The definition and the posting have to be very very clear. Some answers and most are correct. I see a little tension but when peoples future are at stake Sharon is right but so is Mike. Whether or not the sons are living alone or are not intending to Immigrate does not include or exclude them from doing medicals.

Okay have patience!

A dependent is someone who is dependent and is a full time student. If a child is away from home and attending University on Mom´s or Dad´s expense they are still dependent and would need to do the medical. If not and out working on their own then No they are not to be listed.

Now slow down regarding US medical expenses otherwise DC will be saying he can find a cheaper rate. As for the photos for the medical any photo booth is good enough for that. Only CIC requires the fancy photos.

REMEMBER ALL THE ANSWERS DEPEND ON THE DETAILS IN THE POSTING AND LETS ALL BE HAPPY PEOPLE.

My clients will be on TV tonight and in the papers tomorrow so I´m happy and it is not snowing in Toronto RAJ.

I´ve been sitting here crying (and let me tell you, I am NOT a cryer) because of this situation. So close and so far tends to put a strain on things.

Neither son is a student and both have been self-sufficient with no parental help for at least 4 years.

I called a CIC agent as well (I know, not always correct answers) and was told that no matter what age they were they had to listed and have a medical examination. By the way, there is only one listed physician (two but one has retired) doing the medical examinations in Oregon and she charges that amount.

We aren´t a young couple (51 and 49) so the dependent issue kind of threw us. I had written here a while back about remarrying my ex-husband (we´ve only been divorced 8 months) after discovering (okay, he discovered) what a huge mistake was made. We´ve been together 8 years, married 7 of those, and will be remarrying exactly a month from today.

This can be confusing and I really appreciate everyone´s help. I´m sure I´ll be having more questions soon but thank you again.
