Subject: Sponsorship
Hello I am planning on moving up to canada to live with my long-time boyfriend, just recently Fiance. But we are not going to get married before I move. I would like to know about (spousal) sponsorship.
Can I live in Canada while the documents are processing?
How much is it?
How long is the average time it takes to finish?
Do we have to be married?
Is there anything else I can try?
What does the Government need from my fiance? Me?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

you can only visit without your residency documents
- you must be married or living common law for 1 year to start the sponsorship process
-you have a choice, inland sponsorship which is taking about 3 times longer than an out of canada application at the moment
-in canada sponsorship is taking about 18 months to 2 years
-try a work permit for faster access to enter Canada legally
- if you apply from within Canada you will not get permission to work until he is approved as sponsor. 6-8 months??
- the government needs you to fulfill the status requirements - then the application. Cost, about $1,500

if you arrive at the border with your worldly possessions - Canadian border staff will turn you around and send you home.

Well I definately wasn´t going to just show up at the border.....
I wonder if anyone has tips for getting a job in Canada. I´ve been trying for about a month with no luck.

Does a US citizen need a student visa to go to school in Canada for less than 6 months? I thought I read that somewhere.
I know I can live/visit Canada for up to 6 months with out a Temp Resident Visa. Is that per year?

you find a Canadian job using the same skills as you do in the US. However, the job cannot just be any job, it must have HRDC approval.

you can attend a course if it is less than 6 months in duration.

6 month visits are maximum but border security has the perogative to make that limit shorter.
