Subject: A unique problem
  Hi all

I am an Indian. I had applied for Canada Immigration in Feb. 2005. However, in August 2007, I came to US as a PhD student. I will not be able to complete my Phd for personal reasons. Have been in US for around 9 months. Planning to go to India within a year. My queries are:

- I have not yet informed CIC that I moved to US in August 2007. Do I need to inform them?
- Do I need a police clearance certificate from US?
- What else do I need to keep my Canada immig file active?

Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you

Amish

any country more than 6 months requires a police clearance.

change of address becomes important if you are anticipating mail delivery!

Thank you sharon. When should I take Police clearance certificate? Do you have any idea how long it takes to get it done in US?

Is your file being processed at New Delhi? If that is the case then prepare yourself for a wait of about 7-8 years (2012-2013). Better you withdraw your application and file it in Buffalo. It will be processed in about 18-24 months. Try to maintain your status in US or you can move back to India and inform them about change in residential address while keeping the mailing address in US.

Yes, you will need police clearance certificate. The procedure is straightforward and you can obtain the same in few weeks. Search this forum and you will find the info.

Transfer of file to Buffalo is unlikely and based on discretion of the embassy in New Delhi. Better would be if you withdraw the application from New Delhi and file a new application in Buffalo.
