Subject: Caregiver vacation and renewing workpermit
I´ve been in canada since August last year. My working permit with my employer is until August this year only and they don´t have plan to renew it and they only needing me until the expiration of the permit. I already found another employer who will sponsor me after the said time.

Now, my current employer is giving me the vacation that we have in the contract (2weeks) with additional 1 week. My question is am I allowed to go to my home country even if I stayed less than a year in canada and my employer? If ever yes, are those days be deducted in my 24months required for me? And how about the renewing of my working permit with different employer? Do I have to do it before I go on vacation or I´ll just wait for the 30 days before the expiration date of my working permit?

Thanks for a prompt reply.

Hi Joyce,

Your new employer needs to apply for a "positive" LMO from HRSDC (processing time approx 3-5 weeks in Ontario). If granted, then you need to apply for work permit which will take you another 1-2 months. I suggest you proceed with the process as soon as possible.

Good luck!
