Subject: Inviting non-canadian family to visit
  Hi,
I have read some of your posts and I find this forum very interesting, full of friendly advice and extremely helpful, so I decided to post a question myself!

I am Colombian, living in canada for 8 years and now a Canadian citizen.
My husband and I have invited our parents (all 4 of them !! full house) and my sister to visit us this summer. They have all been here 2 times already on a TRV, so we don´t see a possible reason why their visa would be denied this time.
We are getting pretty anxious however, since they submitted their visa applications on April 24 and have not received an answer yet... it´s been 21 agonizing days..... this must be something new, because it has always been 2 days tops!.. one year, they were even able to get it that same day in the afternoon.
We understand there have been some changes and the embassy is now expereincing higher than usual volumes, so they warn you to be prepared to wait up until 15 days (which at this point I am assuming MUST be bussiness days.. or else !!)

Ok, so my questions:

1. Being Canadian citizens and providing our "word" in an affidavit, that we will be resposible for their needs as well as their prompt return to Colombia after their trip, shouldn´t that have a lot of weight in their application? Excuse me if I offend someone here, but having to go through this to see your family is absolutely ridiculous.... your canadian citizenship should be honoured highly and your close family should follow a much simpler process!

2. Did I dream about it or sometime the canadian goverment said they would be simplifying these rules for families of canadian citizens? does anybody know anything about this or have any information?

3. Has somebody experienced this long delays in Colombia to get a TRV? what´s the longest you have waited?

I really appreciatte your time.... even if you don´t know the answers to my questions, but can provide any comments, that would be great! That will also keep me busy for the time being and my mind far away from this nerve-wrecking process!! :-)

If they have previously applied for visa together as they are doing now and got the visa, they came here and maintain their non immigrant staus and went back then the chances are bright that they may get the visa again. However, there is no guarantee based on the fact that they have already come and returned once or twice.

A valid reason for their visit, strong ties to the home country, trong paper work from you would defintely help and i dod not see any problem.

You are rigght that it should be flexible and easy system for the families of citizens so that they come and go freely but unfortunately, its not like this and they provide a reason that when people come, they do not like to go back. That is why they have to screen the whole thing.

I am saying if you allow them to come and go freely, nobody would like to voilate their non immigrant status (especially parents) because would be assured that they can re-enter. At least for parents this flexibility should be provided.

Anyways, good luck to you.

Thanks so much for your response Mike!
That is exactly what we think... there isn´t really a reason why they can be denied entry this time... but unfortunately nothing is for sure, until they have the visa stamped on their passports !!
Perhaps is the long wait that is making us all paranoid.....

Anybody has any experience with the new waiting times in Colombia?

Your parents should keep their ties to their home country in order to get the visa, and demostrate them.

To get the Visa is a process, It´s not likely an human process.
