Subject: Police Certificate from China
I´m Indonesian and was studying in China for 1 year. I´m applying Canadian Permanent Residence and they asked me to provide police certificate from China. Can somebody help me how to get police certificate? Presently I am in Canada. I called Chinese Consulate in Toronto but they said they can not help me for that.

Local Requests
--------------
Applicants should obtain police certificates from the local Public Security Bureau, which should be then notarized by the PRC Notary Public office.

Non-Resident Requests
---------------------
Applicants may obtain notarial certificates from the notary office with jurisdiction over the county of previous residence. Representatives requesting the issuance of certificates on behalf of the applicant should have specific written authorization from the applicant before requesting certificates.

Hi Fen,
Where in China did you stayed?
For shanghai and I guess should be the same for others cities ;you could ask a friend living now in China to go to a notary office to get Police Clearance Certificate(or no criminal record as they called it here) form. He should first take this form to the foreign office of the school for a stamp after then bring the stamped form to the district/school police for them to stamp it also. You bring this form with two stamps to the notary office, you pay the required fee (about RMB 200) and they will tell you when to come to take the notarial certificate of no criminal record ( usually three weeks).
Please note that if you have worked in Shanghai you should bring another form to the company where you worked for the red stamp.
Hope this helps.

Hi guys, I recognize this is a very old post..but just hoping you can still see this and reply to it.

Hi Kyza,
Is the notary office going to give the "no criminal record" based on somebody´s request for it, or are they going to require another document issued by PSB (Public Security Bureau) first before they issue such a document? In my case, I worked in China for 1 year, I had a work visa, so I think I will need a letter from the employer to support the request.]

Hi Fen-were you able to obtain it successfully from the notary office? same Q, did you have to go through PSB first in your case?

thanks a lot!

ACV,
I´ve also worked in China as an ESL teacher in a university for more than 2 years. Basing it from my experience, I actually asked the HRD office of the university where I worked to help me obtain one. The office made a certificate stipulating that I have followed the law of China. they then printed this with the school´s letterhead and stamped it with the school´s seal. After that the HRD officer brought the certificate to the local police station and had it signed and stamped too. try this and i think it works really well since the BSP doesn´t make one. so, that was the least option that we have thought that time. of course you have to see to it that the HR officer is very supportive. The HRD office was very supportive of us foreign teachers actually as long as you are someone who has a good standing. You can do it!

Police Certificate from China (in reply to: Police Certificate from China)
Hi Kyza and acv,

Sorry for the late reply. Now that I got the PR card and understand how headache it is, I wanted to help you guys and hope that it will help. Basically I need to find someone there to help me get the letter from school. I was in Bei Jing that time and a friend of mine know someone who can help me to get the letter from the school. I gave her my student ID # (lucky I still keep it) and the school issued a letter that I was their student in that period of time with their school letterhead and stamped. After that she went to the police in the school district to get the Police Certificate/No criminal record with my letter stating that this person who brought this letter asking for No Criminal record on my behalf. After that the process is just like what Kyza explained. We don´t need to go to PSB or even Chinese embassy. They weren´t helpful at all. After you got it, you can go to any notary office in here to translate it into English. In your case (acv) you might need a letter from your employer i/o School. Good Luck.
