Subject: Political asylum
Recently my country has been riddled with very violent activity due to drug trafficking and recently I found out a friends brother was abducted and killed (Drug lords are abducting at least a person a day to have funds to keep operating) I know the violence is not directed at me or my family but I can tell you that my home town (Tijuana, Mexico)is not a safe place anymore The armed forces re with us at a daily basis and this is only causing more waves of violence (Just this month there are 16 people dead). My question is the following: Could these circumstances qualify as immigration for political asylum?

YES but you would have to explain the internal flight option.

response to both spedoflight and Roy. (in reply to: Political asylum)
Thank you very much for your responses.

This is directed to Roy: I am not familiar with the "internal flight option" would you mind exploring this a bit?

This is directed to Speedoflight: I work in an company that does outsourcing to a major travel agency based in the U.S. According to recent specifications I do not need a visa, There was a true incident that happened just outside of my home when I was about to go to work at 4:20am, (Although this is not drug related) 2 subjects were trying to steal a car when the police started chasing them. both subjects ran in to a dead end which is coincidentally the parking lot from where I live at (I purchased a small condominium) one of these people pulled out a firearm and started shooting at the police, They in turn opened fire with multiple rounds (They did not hit any of the subjects) once they had them under control the officers responded with very unnecessary violence and apprehended the criminals. All this happened about 20 feet away from me while I was frozen scared inside my car. I know this might not have any direct relation with what is happening all over the country but believe me this is a true story. These sort of things happen on a daily basis here and the general media does not publish them due to fear of ruining the international image Mexico has (Many people live off of tourism.

Sincerely, Hiram Moreno

what you have described occurs in Canada too. There was a murder 1/4 block away from my condo about 3 weeks ago.

I am guessing that internal flight option may refer to moving to a safer area of Mexico.

Hiran,

I hope it helps, sorry for the spelling my spanish is getting rusty.

Cheers

Bill

Thank you Bill (in reply to: Political asylum)
Thank you very much for your advice Bill. Even though you say your Spanish is rusty its very good. This route might be something we could consider should things worsen in my country. My wife and myself have no desire to leave for the moment, we love our country very much.

Muchos saludos desde Tijuana Mexico.

Again... Many thanks,

Hiran

Yesterday my neighbor started to tell me that a house in the neighborhood had a break in........I said to bad and quickly got in my car and drove away.

I told my nephew the same situation just as I was told and his first response was so what, like is there no more to the story.

My neighbor is a very negative person and excels on the slightest negative news possible. I would hope she goes to Mexico and makes a refugee claim.

Being surrounded by normal crime, being a victim of normal crime, etc. in my opinion should not make you a convention refugee. I use the word (normal) because nothing in your posting in the slightest way implies that the crimes in your area are focused personally on you or your family.

Now 48% of all refugee claimants win & a huge percentage of those have been Mexican. My personal opinion and knowledge leads me to believe that YES you could win but not with out severe exaggerating or out and out lies!

Try what Bill recommended if he is the guy from Alberta I would consider his advice as a valid option without even knowing what he said.

Hi Roy,

Yeah, I still in Fort McMurray, well...not quite true I am traveling between Kelowna and Fort Mc back and forth now that I am semi-retired. I should be retired within a year or maybe less.

Hiran,

Depending on your profession you may also look into the Provincial nominee program that most Canadian provinces have.

Cheers

Bill

Response to Bill and Roy (in reply to: Political asylum)
Thank you very much to all for your insightful advice. It is not in my interest to apply for Canadian residency based on exaggerations and fictitious stories, I just needed to clarify that even though it`s true that these violent acts are not directed towards myself or my family there is a very thick cloud on insecurity surrounding all of us Mexican Citizens. On May 20th there were 23 people dead all over the country just because of drug trafficking. We were used to "normal" crime that happens everywhere around the Globe Although its very unsettling to see the army, PFP (The equivalent of a swat team) roaming around the streets. I discussed all of this information provided in the forum with my wife and for the moment we are trying to look for a safer city to live here in Mexico. Hopefully it turns out for the best, The last thing we would want to do is leave our country ( We were just exploring some options). Again we thank you very much for all the information provided you have been of great help!

Best regards from Tijuana Mexico

Hiram Moreno.
