Subject: In-Canada Spousal Immigration
  Hi,
First I Would like to extend my sincere thanks to the forum for the efforts taken to share the knowledge and experience, helping others in a great way.

My situation:

My wife got sponsored by her common law partner by Jul 06(She became PR during Jul 06). Later by September 06, they got separated completing the legal separation agreement. Then We got married by Jul 07. My Wife is presently not working. She quit her job by Jun 07 just before our wedding. I recently filed my immigration under the in canada spousal immigration category. With regard to our education, we are engineering graduates if this might be of any help to this case. I received a help from another friend of mine who knows a little abt the immigration system.

My questions are as follows:
1) Is there a minimum time after separation before applying for the spousal immigration.
2) What´s the impact of her prior common law has on our present spousal immigration application "meaning" can she sponsor me even if she was on a common law before. We have submitted the photos proving relationship.
3) I believe there is no minimum income required for the spousal immigration. is that true?
4) Does any one know how long does it take for the pre approval to be issued for the in canada spousal immigration class? I submitted my application in Mar 08. I called up the CIC call centre and they said it takes 6 - 8 months for the pre approval and upto 12 months for the complete process. One of my friends said he got his wife´s pre approval letter in 3 months and he had the whole process completed in 6 months. He hired a lawyer to do it for him. In my case, I filled out the application by myself.

General Question:
Recently there had been changes to the immigration system with the applications being processesed sooner than before for the skilled workers and the information technology workers. How does the immigration system/officers decide the job category or descriptions for whom the process has been quickened. Are these job categories posted anywhere on website of the cic or service canada.

Many Thanks in advance.
