Subject: Visiting parents from India
  Dear Friends,

Ignore this if its off topic for this forum.

My mom plan to visit me in summer, I will be thankful if you can comment on the following.

1. What will be the duration of the visa will she get ? Does she need to go through the Medical examination in India ? (She is central government employee and has 3 months leave sanctioned )

2. Does she need to have medical insurance ? Does anyones parents have visited from India and what insurance did they had for there parents ?

3. Is it mandatory to book return ticket ? I plan to travel back with her when she go back, so if she book it from india, it will be diffcult to get ticket for same airline on same day.

Thank you,
Khalli

1)IF she is granted a visa, it will be up to the disgretion of the IO as to duration. Maximum will be 6 months. if she has verified holidays, do not be surprised if the visa matches her holiday schedule.

2)She should buy travel insurance. You can find it at any car insurance retailer. The last time I looked you can expect about .50 - .70 a day.

3) I would expect CIC to request a return ticket to prove intent to travel. Some carriers allow for a date change. This may be the only way to syncronize your travel.

good luck

If you are applying for a single entry visa, it wont be more than 6 months. Multiple entery visas are more than 6 months but you would still be allowed to stay for 6 months only in the country and after the 6 months you have to apply for an extension of stay in Canada.

it is always adviseadbel to buy travel health insurance because visitors are not covered and if she gets sick here, it would be too expensive to manage the health care expense.

Return air ticket is a MUST when you are traveling on visitor visa, she wont be allowed to get on the plane if she would be carrying a one way ticket and if she does, she wont be able to enter Canada. So return ticket for visitors is a must. Later on if you change your mind you can alawys send back the ticket and get a refund but initially it is a MUST.

Thank you Sharon and Mike.Your comments are helpful for me.

My mom got visa today. It took around 21 for her to get passport after she applied. They gave her 6 month visa.

I know its odd,but I think inviting 1 parent at a time works, although in my case my dad is unable to come due to work.

Cheers
Khalli
