I´m a vegetarian anyway, and I don´t drink. Even though both meat and alcohol are completely ok in Christianity. Yes, the Halal meat part kind of confuses me...*laughs* I might end up finding a place to by Kosher meat. I´m lucky to be moving to a major city :s I currently live in a place that doesn´t even have Jewish or Muslim people...that I know of. :)
I´ve always wanted to do Ramadan. I was going to do it last year, but realized that I´d prefer to do it with him so that I do it properly and don´t end up sick.

Do immigrants have to update their driver´s license?

You do not have to worry about Halal and Harram things as you are a vegetarian. Most of the muslims are okay with Kosher as the meat is done in almost similar to Islamic way. You know what, there is a philosphy behind eating halal meat. When you slaughter an animal in Islamic way, all the blood is drained and meat does not carry any blood into it. All the viruses and diseases are carried by blood so Islam recommends to slaughter animal in a way that all the blood is out and trust me on this that Halal meat is more delicious than the other regular one. In most of the slaughter houses in non muslim countries, the animal is killed either through electric shock are with a strong blow on the head with something strong, which is very brutal besides all the blood stays in the body. Which makes the color of the meat very dark and the taste is not good as it is with halal meat. Try both and then you can only tell the difference between color and the taste.

Ramadan is defintely not for you because you are not a muslim and Ramadan is not all about refraining from food and water. This is actually to overhaul your system and get a control on your desires and mind and help you get ready with certain things that you sometimes miss in your life. The first need for any human is food and water. If you do not eat and drink for few days, you would not even like to sleep with miss universe instead you would like to eat and fill your stomach first. When you are hungry by stomach you do not like any thing. So this prepares you to overcome the desires, control your mind, and bring your system to a position where you become able to control yourself. I do not know if you are aware or not but during Ramadan you are not allowed to do sex during the day when you are fasting. At night you may but not during the day when you are at fast. So it is not only the food and water, it is every thing you have to stay far from, just to handle your body and mind and get a control over it.

Trsut me you do not get sick when you fast, but your digestive system boosts up because you eat on time and do not eat any thing in between. It gives you trouble in the begining and then you get used to it.

Good luck with halal meat and ramadan, i hope you would enjoy.

Anyways, the best way to bring him to Canada is to go there and get married and within a year time you will be able to see him in Canada. Otherwise looking at his financial and other conditions, it would a difficult and lengthy process. You are planning to marry anyway so there is nothing wrong about him to go there and marry and then sponsor him.

Stephanie´s age is going to cause CIC to ask lots of questions. As long as you are prepared to defend your relationship - things will be OK. Having met his family etc will go a long way with CIC.

My boyfriend has asked me to participate in Ramadan with him. I know a lot about Ramadan, and yes I know about abstaining from sex during the day. As well, Ramadan is to put yourself in a place where you can empathize with the homless and the hungry. It is also a time used to reflect on God. Christians fast too. It isn´t manditory, and we don´t believe that God will frown upon us if we don´t do it, but it is a practice among Christianity.
I don´t know what your beliefs are about what religion should participate in Ramadan. Either way, I believe that it is a good thing for anyone who is willing to pariticpate. As a Christian, I would reflect on God as well. :) Thank you so much for the information.

Yes, i know Christians fast as well but they have their own way of fasting. One day i went to see one of my colleauges at her home....TV was turned off in and i asked why aren´t you watching TV today and she said i have a TV fast. I said what do you mean by TV fast. She said we design our own way of fasting. Today i am not watching TV so it is my TV fast. Tomorrow i am not going to eat meat all day so that would be my meat fast and the next day i shall not drink Juices and only drink water so that would be my Juices fast.

I spoke to myself that this is a wonderful way of fasting, whenever you feel like not watching TV just go for TV fasting and when you want to eat vegtables instead of meat go for meat fasting. Amazing!

without launching off on a great religious discussion or proking any sort of debate (if you are tempted... please refrain)

Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all religions of ´the book´. You will find endless similarities in the historical stories and the principles of personal conduct often come from similar motivations. Both Judaism and Islam view Jesus differently and that is where the majority of the difference comes. In both cases the liberator has not come. In the case of Christianity, Jesus is viewed as the completion of the faith.

In both Islam and Judaism, obedience to religious law and conduct are the measure of ones faithfulness to God/Allah/Jehovah and the path to paradise/heaven. For most Christians, obedience is a product of thankfulness and heaven is not earned but a gift.

religion 101 in 100 words or less. :)

I thought so too! When you put it all down it really makes you wonder what everyone is fighting about. There is so much tied up in being ´right´ and ´our way is the proper way´ when in truth the motivations are the same. Every religious community struggles with this elitist arrogance and while I have a strong faith of my own, I really get very weary of the debate - from all sides.

I am sorry, if i have hurt anybody however, i did not mean it. I only wanted to share what i experienced in my real life and my that friend is very very religious, 100% religious christian. So that was kind of strange experience. Anyways, i have no intention to get into any religious debate here. I believe in thinking and doing good for all and i try my best. This is what my religion is. No religion but your own good deeds would save you and give peace of mind. Peace!

I dont understand what a conjugal partner is. It talks about being "dependent" on the other partner. What type of "dependency" is needed? I will still have to go and see him, and of course picture will be needed...

Can someone clarify this?

Thanks

Steph

there is something either cultural or legal (such as gay marriage) that precludes you from living common law or getting married. Your relationship could be deemed conjugal. You are married in every sense of the word but can´t because of external reasons.

Tough to prove, and I have yet to see anyone get approval. Fact is... there is nothing stopping you besides money from marrying him so CIC will suggest you do so.
