Subject: What is a long form birth certificate?
I received my medical papers on June 02, 2008 and along with that a letter tick marked for - Long form birth certificates for children with parents name. Anybody knows what is this long form birth certificate.

In Oct 2005, when I put up my application, I had submitted birth certificates for my children issued by Indian Embassy Kuwait which stated only father´s name, as per the usaul convention of Indian Embassy. Later during the waiting period, I send an update with Birth Certificates issued by the same embassy mentioning both parents names on the birth certificates.

Now the CIC-London is asking for long form birth certificates. Does it mean that CIC misplaced those certificates, which I sent as an update, or is it that they have seen these but these were not long form birth certificates as what they ask now.

Now I can submit only the birth certificate issued by Indian Embassy at Kuwait which gives name of the child, date of birth and parents name. Is that not sufficient? How does it affect my application if I am not able to provide the so called long form birth certificate.

Any advise on this is highly appreciatd. Thanks in advance.

In Canada, we have two kind of birth certificates:
1 with the parents names and a whole lot details (long form)
2, pocket size birth certificate with the registeration # and name of child only.
You can tell the CIC that in India , we don´t have long form certificate. show them birth certificate, and other registration document, if you have from India,

They´ve asked me for the same for me and my wife. Is this a new requirement for Canada? Can you share how did you solve your problem. Thanks....

They are probably looking for evidence of a relative in Canada by comparing your birth certificate to others to gain your five points. They also want to see that the children listed on your application are in deed yours.

In Canad we call it a "Statement of Live Birth" which is used to apply for an official birth certificate.

I am not claiming any points for relationship. I just send them a copy of the original birth certificates of my children naming both parents, i.e myself and my wife´s name. I am waiting for their response if they agree to it or not. By the way, I do not have any other birth certificates for my children, as I am not claiming points for this, I am least bothered about it.
