Subject: Unused WP and applying for PR
Hi Roy, Sharon and fellow advisors,

I have a strange situation. I am working in US, I got a job offer from a company in Toronto and applied for WP in US. Something came up in US so now I have decided not to take that job and not to travel to Canada using that work permit.

Would it cause any problems if I decide to file for PR in a couple of months while I have a valid WP/TRV that I never used/ travelled?

Please let me know your thoughts...

Well I can assume your not a US citizen because you got a TRV Temporary Resident Visa.

So lets look at it this way-----

1. You sought out a Canadian company to hire you.
2. You convinced the Canadian company to get a LMO for you.
3. You had HRSDC work on and issue you a Labour Market Opinion.
4. You had the US authorities conduct work on your behalf to prove you had no convictions in the States.
5. You had your countries authorities complete a search of their criminal data base to prove you had no convictions in your country.
6. You had your previous employer submit a reference letter attesting to your years of experience in your occupation.
7. You probably underwent a medical in the States, did you?
8. You applied for your work permit and had the same Visa Post staff that will probably work on your PR application and they approved your application for temporary residence and your TRV.

Government employees have something in common no matter where they are from----they hate to do work to approve someone not to have that person accept what they have applied for!

In theory your actions should not hurt your PR application but.....

Will you be applying for and receiving an AEO to submit with your PR application?

Roy, I agree 100% with you. I faced the same situation in 2005. I applied in Buffalo for PR and during the interview in Detroit, she asked me only 1 question, tht why did i waste their time for the whole process of issuing the work permit/TRV.
She turned down my PR visa request. And said that i don´t have creditability.
