Subject: Lost IMM1000, need to go for Oath

We have completed citizenship test and received letter for oath. We have my wife´s IMM1000. But my IMM1000 is lost. We have landed on the same day, in my wife´s IMM1000 paper it?s mentioned that I am accompanying. Also I remember in my paper it was saying that she is accompanying.

However we both have all other documents, including PR card.

My question is, when we go for oath, as I don´t have the IMM1000, what will happen?

Thanks

GS

You wo´t get citizenship ever, that´s it.

Just kidding, relax, in my case some years back they mentioned only EITHER IMM 1000 OR the PR card. In my case, I never had PR card as I landed in the older days where IMM 1000 was the only PR status documents.

I believe that if you have your PR card then it doesn´t matter. They´ll just destroy your PR card. Who don´t have PR cards, just the IMM 1000 form, they´ll have a cancellation seal there.

So, you should be OK.

Thank you for the reply.

During my test, the lady who verified the paper said we need to bring the IMM1000 papers during the oath. Otherwise we need to get the copy from CIC.

Meanwhile we searched at our house found my wife´s paper, but mine is no where.

I wonder why did she ask us to bring the paper.

Thanks

Mostl likely she assumed that you landed before 2002 for some reason and only have IMM 1000 without the PR card.

What specifically your notice of oath says? Need to bring both??? In our time it was EITHER.

After the PR card erra started the importance of IMM 1000 became very low, I believe now it is just a single entry immigration paper. Earlier it used to be like the PR card without the picture on it.

Our IMM1000 is just 1 page paper.

The following is mentioned in the oath letter.

Subject: NOTICE TO APPEAR - TO TAKE THE OATH OF CITIZENSHIP

...
...

Immigration Record of Landing (IMM1000) to be updated AND/OR Permanent Resident Card (PRC) to be surrendered. If you have both, you must bring both.

"AND/OR Permanent Resident Card (PRC) to be surrendered. If you have both, you must bring both.

Hmm, it looks like now they might have changed. I´m now worried with the clearly written, "If you have both, you must bring both."

I would suggest you to call CIC immediately. Though I can tell for sure in our time I see many folks around me are just handing over their PR card and they used to destroy the cards immediately.

I called CIC 2 weeks ago before I get this letter, they said it is not really mandatory as long as I have PR card. However it may be different depends on the CIC office. So she suggested me to contact CIC office through fax and inform this.

But I didn´t do it, because I don´t want to disrupt their processing.

Still I am scared to send fax to them. I am planning to attend on the day and explain in person. What else can I do within the short time!!

"they said it is not really mandatory as long as I have PR card"

I think & strongly believe so too.

"it may be different depends on the CIC office" - That doesn´t meake good sense to me.

My office was Scarborough town center and I didn´t find a single of the PR card holders are showing their IMM 1000 forms.

We have attended the oath today. They have asked for the IMM1000. Once I have indicated as lost, they asked to fill a form to record the loss. They recommended to get the certified true copy of IMM1000 for the future use, like pension etc.

We received the citizenship and applied for passport.

One more thing we observed, when we apply dual citizenship to India, they ask for IMM1000 to confirm the landing date.

Thanks
