| Subject: Want to marry an American |

I moved down to Dallas with my g/f from Canada about a year ago, gone back to Canada a few times to visit. Anyway, we want to get married here in the United States. I dont actually have any status in the US as of now except as a visitor, what happens if we get married? What do I have to do after we get married to get a work permint? green card? Im clueless on this issue but know it will be a lot harder than Ive given thought.

you have to find out about american immigration not canadian.
it might take you over a year to get your papers to work in states. your wife can sponsor you but it will take a while.

I´m sooo homesick after reading your note. I´m orginally from Dallas. Not totally sure, but this is what I know.
Once married, you can get a temp green card. It´s good for 3 years then once you pass all the tests (i.e. that you marriage is legit) then immigration gives you a green card that is valid for 10 years (I think). Of course there´s all the paperwork like any country, but at least you can go to work right away.
OK to fun stuff.....yummy eateries - Papsitos - several locations, Blue Goose on Greenville Avenue, Sonny´s BBQ downtown. Fun Local Bars - Stan´s Blue Note and most places in Deep Ellum.

Well well.. it is strange that anyone could miss a nasty town like Dallas. I went there, lived there, and took a piss on it before a leavin. You can marry there but you somehow make yourself legitimate. It will take more than a year before you can get work permit. But being in Dallas, you must be able to do odd jobs and paid under the table. Enjoy the heat...
